Bruske Dorm Reviews at Alma

The bathrooms are cleaned every day, except weekends. Any unclean areas are created by other students not being mindful of the messes they create. The RAs do their best to enforce clean behaviors to ensure that everything is good to use. The noise is rarely a problem, but there are occasional people who will be loud or running through dorms throughout the day and night.

The reason I selected Bruske instead of the other freshman dorm (Gelston) is because Bruske has more privacy; Bruske has private bathrooms while Gelston has public or open bathrooms. As a queer student, it was important to me to feel safe in the bathroom and since I did not know the climate of Alma college prior to the start of my freshman year, I felt safer in a dorm building that had private bathrooms. Its location on campus is close enough to the other freshman dorm that location was not a factor in my decision. However, Gelston has been more recently renovated and is a nicer dorm to live in. I no longer live in Bruske, as it is a freshman dorm only, but in hindsight I am still glad I chose it over Gelston.

Bruske is a safe building, but it definitely could use some improvements in the areas of maintenance, cleanliness, and common area use. With covid, more things are restricted which does not help, but it is what it is. Luckily the staff of Resident Assistants makes it all worth it.

I live on the third floor, and while it was absolute hell moving in, I do get daily cardio workouts trying to get to class and I don't hear my neighbors or their activities. Plus, there are plenty of washing machines, unlike Gelston. You just have to be careful your socks don't get caught in there under the rim of the door. I am not looking forward to carrying all of my luggage back up four flights of stairs to move back in after break, but let's be honest, I need the exercise.

It is a nice facility for students and offers many great aspects of dorm life. One thing I will say is that many people go in and out of bruske and sometimes when studying. The building is cleaned regularly and kept up well. The location could be better but it is a freshamn dorm.

My experience at Bruske involved asbestos being in the ceiling, one close private bathroom with a shower and a toilet, however, my three roommates were what made this worthwhile. We had a four person room, so there was enough space for everyone to have their own respective corners alongside anything they had brought for personal usage such as microwaves, personal fridges, the works. There was never a dull moment as the time I had been enrolled in Alma, Bruske was being renovated at that time so it wasn't completely finished by the time we had arrived. Bruske would always have a place in my heart regardless of the safety concerns.

Itβs a co-ed dorm, recently renovated with the only real issue being the broken fire alarm system. Iβd recommend it as the building is relatively quite, up-kept nicely and overwhelming a good introduction to college living.
