Bowie Hall Dorm Reviews at App State

Bowie Hall is one of the oldest Halls at App State and it shows. It is located at the top of a large hill at the very corner of campus. It is what I would consider the direct opposite of universal housing. Although there are two elevators, they have broken down multiple times throughout the semester. There is also a small staircase that must be climbed in order to reach the elevators, so hopefully, no Bowie Hall residents are ever put in a wheel chair on crutches. The staff is amazing, but the building is very very rough.

Bowie Hall is the oldest dorm on campus which explains a lot. The floors are separate by gender and the walls are paper thin. The bathrooms are disgusting, and never get cleaned. The elevator breaks and the common area is tiny. Definitely the worst dorm on campus.

Overall it wasn't a terrible experience but Appalachian's campus is in a hilly area so it was a hike to get up to the dorm. We didn't have AC but it wasn't bad because it's the mountains so a fan and an open window were enough. We also received a mini-fridge/microwave as a result of not having AC. The only really thing I could complain about was that the staff had the weekends off so we would have to keep our own stock of toilet paper and soap for our bathroom use on the weekends. Other than that, not a bad experience.

Bowie hall has been fun and enjoyable, and nice plus it's pretty clean. however there are some maintenance issues such as heaters needing to be fixed, and elevators being out of order every once in a while, that can get annoying. Overall I enjoy my stay at Bowie Hall it could be worse!

While COVID-19 has made my freshmen year different the staff and other residents have been very kind and helpful. The dorm rooms are comfortable and they've kept the building very sanitary. The only negative thing is fire drills when you live on higher floors, but it's like that everywhere.
