Ruth Collins Residential Hall Dorm Reviews at Baylor

Ruth Collins Residential Hall is a new and improved version of something that was once considered 'Crusty Collins' and is now the best residential hall on campus. The only minimal issue is elevators not being up consistently. Besides this, the environment, aesthetics, and landscape are superb.

Collins is a great place to meet people but it's not quite big nor very clean. The dorms are livable, but the bathrooms can get extremely dingey. Staff is all helpful and respectful the actual structure of Collins simply needs updating.

Every week the water would be turned off for a few hours to work on the piping, which meant no showers, ho hand washing, no flushing toilets on a weekly basis. I lived on the sixth floor and only used the elevator twice the whole time I lived there because both times I did I got stuck for no less than ten minutes. The building is old and needs renovation, but the alumni believe the frustration of living in Collins hall is "part of the Baylor experience". Should the school ever decide to update the building, it would help to stop mentioning that there once was a homeless guy who took up residence in the bathtub of a community bathroom for an all-girls dorm hall as it makes the place seem less secure.

The bathrooms were a bit disgusting but so are all college bathrooms. The community is the best and this dorm is definitely the most social! It gets quiet at night which is good. There is a workout room on the first floor which is nice!

If you are a freshman at Baylor planning on rushing in the spring, you HAVE to live here! The community is unmatched and it is such a fun experience. Yes, Collins is a little crusty, but so so worth it.

I got a really great room. Great size. Noting has been wrong with my room and I haven't seen any bugs haha. The showers are not great but you can't expect much from a 70 year old dorm. The community is the best part of living there since it is awesome being around girls and making new friends wherever. I would HIGHLY suggest Collins for any girl wanting to rush because that is how you find the most connections.

I personally got very lucky and have not had a terrible experience in Collins. I luckily do not have any mold in my room (that I know of). All the staff, maintenance workers, and residents are all very nice and always say hello. The worst things: 1) the walls are VERY thin and you can hear just about everything- my next door neighbors are terribly loud always have boys over late at night past quiet hours and visiting hours, and 2) the bathrooms can be really gross. Collins is also known for everyone always keeping their doors open unless youβre studying, sleeping, or changing. However, with COVID, no one keeps their doors open this year, so itβs harder to meet people and make friends. All in all, Collins is in desperate need of a renovation, it can be pretty gross, girls get stuck in the elevators all the time (I luckily have not), thereβs a pretty bad mold problem, and thereβs been some safety incidents with men getting in, but other than that, I got a really great room and have not had a bad experience living in Collins. It sounds a lot scarier than it actually is, I promise!

Collins is an excellent dorm to pick if you're trying to find a good community of girls. Ive met so many great girls my freshmen year by living here! Living with all girls may sound intimidating to some, but I have personally gained so many genuine friendships through this dorm.

I have not enjoyed living in Ruth Collins Residential Hall. It is not that the rooms are too small, but that everything is very outdated and dirty. It is clear that nothing in this residential hall has been updated in at least a decade. The community bathrooms are also very dirty. The showers, sinks, and toilets are very poorly cleaned. Every time I walk back to my room from taking a shower, I feel worse more unclean than I did before the shower. The water has a foul smell as does the rest of the bathroom. Besides the horrible community bathrooms, the rooms are either very hot or very cold. There is no way to change the temperature in the room, so you just have to deal with whatever the temperature is that day. Ruth Collins Residential Hall is not very close to any of the main academic buildings, besides the Student Union Building. Other than that, you have to walk at least fifteen minutes to get to the other side of campus, if you have classes in the Baylor Science Building. Overall, I would recommend any other dorm to live in as a freshman at Baylor.

This residence hall has not been updated since the 50s and it shows. One positive to this dorm is that you are bonded for life with every other resident for having lived here. If you have a good roommate it is really not that bad though.

The staff is amazing! All of the ladies who work here are very kind and helpful. The building is older, but it is nice. The location is easy to get used to. I love living here. I love talking to the girls who work at the front desk, I know that they all genuinely care about all of us who live here.
