Griffith's Hall Dorm Reviews at UC Berkeley

I lived with two other roommates in a space that was smaller than the size of a regular bedroom. We had to walk around a dresser that was placed directly in the center of the room. There was practically no walking or free space whatsoever. The water fountain on the bottom floor, which is used to fill water bottles and Brita filters, always had a yellow or red light indicating that the filter needed to be replaced. It was never replaced. As for the location, it is directly across from People's Park, which is a homeless tent community. I often had no problem walking by People's Park to go to class or otherwise, because oftentimes those individuals keep to themselves. There were a few times when our safety at Unit 2 became extremely threatened. I was chased twice by homeless men. A homeless individual managed to gain entry into our dorm, went up to the second floor, and entered the bathroom. Thankfully, he was removed - but if he had any bad intentions, it would not have been difficult for him to overpower someone. Another incident occurred where a homeless man was publicly m*sturbating outside of one of the halls, looking directly at two girls who he was attempting to terrorize inside. No AC, it was awful on warmer days. Only one shower on our floor, out of 4, had a decent amount of warmth and pressure. It can get loud on the weekends when people are in and out of the dorm to go to frats. Alerts were sent out every day by Berkeley's "WarnMe" system, if not multiple times throughout the day. This included burglaries, sexual battery, aggravated assault, arson, and much, much more. There was also an active shooting at one point during the 2022 Fall semester, just down the street from one of the units. Safety here is questionable at best. The dorm is also three blocks away from campus, so if you are walking, you should be leaving 30-45 minutes early depending on how far away your class is. Firetrucks go by 3-4 times a night, so if you are also a light sleeper, good luck.
