Calhoun Courts Dorm Reviews at Clemson

I enjoyed Calhoun for the most part because it was a full apartment. It is one of the cheaper housing options but if you cook then i'd 110% recommend it. The people living there form our own sort of community because we are a little on the outskirts of the campus housing ring. Living there with my roomates gave me life long friends and connections I never thought I'd have. The people are extremely nice and helpful. Calhoun also offers study spaces in the common area but it is a little competitive to get in there during finals week.

During my stay at Calhoun Courts at Clemson University, the experience was wonderful. I love the apartment style structure they had to them which made them feel like home. The ID locked doors were also a good touch to ensure safety within the dorms.

It's okay, we are apartment style, so besides maintenance and the building itself, most of the issues come from the people living with and around you. I do like our volleyball and basketball courts those are a good way to meet people.

I moved to Calhoun Courts in the middle of the school year, so I only lived there for about a semester, so the experience is only for the Spring semester of 2023. Since it was recently renovated, it was pretty modern and clean despite its age. The kitchen was decently sized, but with more than two people in the kitchen, it just became tiny and uncomfortable. The main takeaway from living there was that I think the dorm is too small to have four people living there at once; I think two would be the best amount to have there. When we had an issue, maintenance did an excellent job with the time they addressed and fixed the problem. The landscape around Calhoun Courts got overgrown in some parts of the seamster but never to the point of becoming an issue of safety or cleanliness. The trashcans are pretty far away if you live near the common building, so be prepared to walk with two trash bags up a hill. The common building was very nice except for the convince of the laundry room. It's on the bottom floor, so you have to enter on the top floor to either walk or take the very slow elevator down to the bottom floor. The ventilation of the laundry room is quite bad, with lots of lint and dust everywhere, and it is very stuffy and humid. Besides that, the common building is very nice. There is a spot to study while you do your laundry; they offer balls to use on the basketball court behind the building and often host fun activities to destress during exam season. Lastly, the location of Calhoun is a bit far from the CORE of campus, it is about a 10-minute walk, but that never was really a problem for me since you walk to walk everywhere for everything else. Also, if you ride a bike, Calhoun is evil with convent ways to bike out of the area; it is either a bike up the hill or trying to pull your bike down a lot of stairs. I think for the price of Calhoun, and what you get, it is a pretty good dorm to stay at. TL;DR The dorms at Calhoun are good since they were just renovated and have recently been given new appliances; the dorm just feels a little small sometimes with everyone in it. The location is okay. It has a lot of stairs surrounding it and is about a 10-minute walk from CORE; not the best area to bike because of the stairs and hills. The common area/laundry room is also okay, the fun events, study area, and basketball court are good additions, but the lack of ventilation and the stuffiness of laundry really brings it down.

Calhoun Courts is a great place to live if you don't want to feel cramped and over crowded. In each apartment there is a living room, full kitchen, and a bathroom. There are two rooms which are shared by 4 people. I loved the courtyard community that was built as well, all of my closest friends from college so far are from our courtyard community. Calhoun Courts also has a common study room, basketball court, and volleyball court.

I really enjoyed the apartment style living. Although it was on the outskirts of campus, I appreciated having my own space and living room that I could do work in. The commons area is also quite nice and always accessible. I imagine it was easier to access our laundry mat than it is in the high rises, where they often have to travel multiple floors to wash their laundry, depending on the floor they live on. Parking is also way more accessible to Calhoun Courts than it is to other residents on campus.

Calhoun Courts was conveniently near everything during my Freshman year at Clemson but does raise some issues surrounding safety (theft and car break-ins), as well as cleanliness (dusty upon arrival, stains in bathroom). Otherwise it was alright, it is a shared space (3 roommates, 1 other in your room) and a little tight but doable. I definitely got close with them and my unit because of how close everybody is physically.

I have been a resident of Calhoun Courts for the past two years and I can honestly say it has become my second home. I lived on the North side and the only thing is I was is that they were renovated like the South side of Calhoun. This dorm is an apartment style which comes with a living area kitchen a bathroom and two rooms. The only real con is that it is a little far from the rest of campus.

Overall, I enjoyed living in the quieter dorm offered by Holmes. With the suite bathroom I was able to better control the cleanliness of the bathrooms and felt more at home.It also gave me the opportunity to grow closer to my suite mates and have more friends initially. However, I think the outside of the dorm building could use some maintenance and TLC.

The door locks were broken on move-in day, the faucets are constantly clogging and the vents just bring in a ton of dust. I will say, the location is convenient since its very close to dining and to the main part of campus.
