Jewett Hall Dorm Reviews at Drake

As a freshman, what I love the most about Jewett Hall is that it is for upper-class students. With that being said everybody in the residence hall is very focused on their studies. Compared to other residence halls at Drake University (especially freshmen halls) a lot of the students are always hanging out and talking. In Jewett Hall, you are motivated by your senior classmates and how efficiently they spend their time.

The walls are like cinder blocks and there isn't much of a homey feeling. It looks dirty and kind of reminds me of walls in prison cells. It is also extremely hard to decorate because you can't stick anything to the walls. The rooms are very tall, but there is quite a few open pipes that allow for bugs to come in. The AC machine is also very dirty. There is also a large gap by the window preventing me from pushing anything over. The bathrooms are okay, but the maintenance isn't very good. There are always clumps of hair in the shower which is gross and the water pressure is only decent in one out of five showers. The dorm itself is pretty old so the stairwells are old and it has an old smell, which doesn't bother me. They staff and residence assistants are all very nice, however, there isn't mailboxes that I can do myself. There are also not dishes offered or vacuums we can check out. The dorm is in the center of campus which is a nice location, but far from the dining hall so it is inconvenient to walk that way. Overall it was a decent experience, but it could definitely use some improvements.
