Griggs Hall Dorm Reviews at UMD

Griggs is a very homey dorm hall where you can make a lot of friends with your neighbors, you can also attend dorm events. In the world of COVID, our dorm events were online bingo or pictionary, trivia night, and crafts via zoom. It was a lot of fun and something I will never forget

Really like it here, staff and students are nice and willing to answer questions. Only con is it's kind of far from classes and many on campus buildings. However, it is the largest dorm section on campus, so others could have a different experience.

I love my dorm hall. Everyone is super nice and friendly. I met my best friends randomly in the hallway my first day at college. The RA's are very respectful and the staff is very helpful! I feel at home here. It's my home away from home.

I lived in Griggs Hall in fall 2019-spring 2020, during my time there I really enjoyed being in my dorm room! The only thing I would change is to get a rug for my floor because when I woke up in the morning and stepped on the ground, my feet were always cold!

I got lucky and ended up in the nicest room in Griggs Hall! My room is newly renovated, and has carpet! Griggs is quiet and in a perfect location, not to far from everything. The bathrooms are very nice with plenty of space and always available hot water. I would highly recommend this dorm hall to anyone.

Griggs was a good dorm hall, but Ianni was nicer. I would try to get into Ianni first and then Griggs would be my second choice for the co-ed options. Lake Superior Hall would be my last choice. Griggs was a pretty standard dorm room.

Griggs can be very loud at times. My RA makes no effort to interact with us the hallways and bathrooms get get a little dirty and the common areas are pretty far apart. Griggs is in a great location but also we have had times where intruders do come in

It was a nice dorm to be in as a freshman. I was in Griggs D which was pretty close to laundry and not to far of a walk on the the main campus. I wish I had a better RA, but overall the experience was good and I would definitely recommend this hall to live in.

I’ve enjoyed living in the dorms but this year has had many challenges related to CoVid. Common areas aren’t as accessible as previous years. I enjoy the small floor sections as it’s easier to study and feel safe!

My experience in Griggs Hall during my freshman year of college at the University of Minnesota, Duluth was an interesting experience. There were times when fellow hall mates were inviting random friends to the floor and there were times and when they were throwing parties. Once in a while you could smell marijuana in the hall way and from peoples dorms. Sometimes I came across someone that was under the influence of a narcotic. The way people treated the bathrooms was gross. Sometimes when entering the bathroom there would be urine on the floor, paper towels everywhere, someone vomiting or someone under the influence. Also the Custodians never did a great job on cleaning the facilities. The location of Griggs Hall was a great place because it was close to a lot of nearby places that benefited me. The common areas were pretty nice, sometimes people would move things around or they would leave their trash.

My experience has been pretty good so far in Griggs hall. The size of the dorm is pretty good and you can arrange the room and make it bigger than the room seems. I am on the top floor corner room and I have a beautiful view of Lake Superior and a view of the entire campus. The dorms are right in front of Griggs Beach which is where all the basketball courts, volleyball nets and just a good hangout spot to meet people. I would definitely recommend staying in Griggs hall as I believe they are the best dorms on campus.
