Somers Hall Dorm Reviews at GWU

Nothing was wrong with the dorm building, but the people within will make a huge difference. I'm sure it would be much nicer with people who respect the shared environments. Occasionally we'd have problems with the water being shut off due to student negligence but I don't necessarily fault the building for that.

I really enjoyed living at Somers. It has recently been renovated and feels very clean. Another plus is that there is a sink in every dorm room. This way you can get a drink of water or brush your teeth without needing to leave your room.

I have had great experiences here. The dorms include a sink so that is nice, they also aren't as small as someone would assume. The walls and doors are kind of thin so you can hear people being loud in the hallway or if someone is playing music loud in their room next to yours.

Without a good group of friends or an amazing roommate, living on the Vern is not something I would recommend for most students. There's no immediate access to food unless you're a fan of vending machines or Pelham Commons, and Somers itself experiences more than its fair share of issues with water heating and cleanliness. If you get an assignment in Somers, you should hope to get on the renovated half-- which costs the same amount as the NON-renovated half. However, if you enjoy the Vern, Somers Hall is the optimal location in terms of the VEX (right outside the front door) and placement (in between a café/study hall and the library).
