Taft Hall Dorm Reviews at University of Illinois

Fortunate to have an easy and pleasant experience at Taft. RA was helpful, kind, and cordial. The staff were very kind and easy to talk to. It was a bit of a walk from downtown campus but the bus system was excellent. I enjoyed the restriction to upperclassmen and that it was a quieter dorm. It was the most affordable dorm on campus.

Taft-Vandoren was the most bare bones hall ever. Cinderblock walls with old furniture, bad wifi, gross bathrooms. It built character. The residents were cool while i lived there because everyone was going through the same problems so everyone bonded over that. The RA while I was there was really chill as well. Location was great with the dining hall being 3mins away as well as not being too far from all the greek life and the quad.

Taft Hall was incredibly social. I met many wonderful people there. The dorm is quite old, so if air conditioning is important to you I would not recommend it. There are also no elevators and it is a four story building. I was on the ground floor, but I felt safe as fourth street was right out my window.

Do not live here if you're a POC. Clear examples of racism from the white peers over-running the halls in Taft. I did not feel welcomed at all, but hopefully your roommate won't be so bad. The bathrooms are huge and meant for the convenience of multiple people.

Taft Hall was a good place to live, especially for freshman year. Over summer, it was a little harder without air conditioning, but other than that it was fine. It isn't as bad as others say and definitely liveable in.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Taft Hall. I wish it had AC because the summer months got very hot. Additionally, there is no elevator so it is not handicap accessible. I was on the fourth floor so moving in and out was a lot of work since there was no elevator.
