Wayland Hall Dorm Reviews at James Madison

I really like Wayland hall, people are very good with the quite hours rules and it is always very clean here. The RAs are pretty nice, I personally love my RA Shelby, the laundry is also very nice because there's a good number of washers and driers available.

This is the Arts Living community at JMU. You must apply to live there and students with arts scholarships often get first pick. There are opera singers to band players to while it may be the most fun and spontaneous dorm at JMU, it is also by FAR the loudest.

As an arts major, it is the best place to stay. You room and live with people that all share similar majors and interests. The dorm also has two practice rooms and an entire recital hall. The bathrooms have been messy here and there, but the staff works as hard as they can to keep the dorm clean. Wayland sits in Bluestone drive, which is a peaceful site of residence halls where not many "ragers" take place. It is also a five-minute walk to the music building and Forbes. I completely recommend.

There are wonderful people there and many opportunities to meet other people your age. Everyone helps one another and all facilities are well maintained. It's usually pretty quiet though it's an art dorm so sometimes music students will practice. It's in a good location.

So far my experience at Wayland has been amazing! The second I moved into Wayland I had already met so many friendly faces! Wayland Hall is mostly an arts students hall, however, you can also apply to be in Wayland even if you are not majoring in the arts. One of my closest friends is a nursing major! Everyone in Wayland is like a family, we are all very supportive of each other and spend a lot of time together especially during the pandemic. Not only is the family aspect of Wayland great, but Wayland has air conditioning (unlike other JMU dorms) which is VERY NICE, especially when it gets warmer. The rehearsal spaces in the basement are very useful for the arts students as well as the several study spaces Wayland has if you just need a quiet place to work. Overall, I believe Wayland is an amazing dorm and just might be the best on campus.

This is my first year at James Madison University and I am beyond happy that I chose Wayland. The dorm is the perfect distance from the dining hall and equally perfect distance from the music building (since I am a music major). The people who work at Wayland as well as the people who live in Wayland are always very welcoming and happy to be there. I have never seen any messes in Wayland, It's always top notch. The dorm size is much larger than I would have expected and they are very nice inside. The air-conditioning was definitely a big bonus as well. Although I haven't been able to fully enjoy the common areas because of COVID, they look like they make a comfy hangout spot. I would 100% recommend Wayland hall to anyone, the only downside is that it is right in front of train track so every now and again you get to hear the lovely sounds of a train.
