Pearson Residential College Dorm Reviews at University of Miami

Pearson Residence is a great place to live as a Freshman at UMiami. I would definitely recommend this residence hall over Hecht and Stamford. You get your own bathroom that you share with three other students with a shower, a toilet and two sinks. This makes it easy to make simple meals in your dorm as you have constant access to a sink. I did have a few problems while living in Pearson. I had rodents in my room twice because of an unsealed vent. Maintenance did not help or solve the problem. The air filters in the rooms where filthy and not clean. Hallways were not cleaned regularly and in my experience, food, mice feces and hair were on the floor for days. I also had a problem with the laundry services at this residence hall. A lot of the dryers were prone to breaking and one of them ended up burning and ripping my clothes. Honestly, I do not think living in Pearson was worth what I paid for the accommodation. I had good experiences and bad at this residence hall, but in my opinion, it is the best place to live as a Freshman at UMiami.

The walls are pretty thin so you can hear music when you are in the hallways or if your roommate is playing music, you can hear people going to bathroom above you, and when walking in the hallways, you can hear shower curtains moving. I really like how the rooms in Pearson, when compared to Hecht or Stanford, have their own bathrooms and sinks. The room is spacious enough to fit two people, but some things have to be discussed on how the room will operate. The student staff here is extremely nice and there are sometimes free events within the residential college. With my experience, the First Year Fellows on my floor have been engaging and personable. The dining hall is also across the way from the dorm so it is super efficient if you need to eat and then get back to work or a class. My view is the mini skyline of buildings which is pretty awesome, and the sunsets are beautiful. Tropical birds also fly by every week!

I stay in a single room, the place is very nice and comfortable. My neighbors are friendly and the location is excellent. It is close to the dining hall and the library but it is far from the gym and recreational fields. the train goes multiple times per day but it's not very loud

My experience at Pearson Residential College has been great so far. I would suggest being a heavy blanket because the dorms can be cold at times. I would also suggest that you bring some kind of ants or roach spray although the issue isn't bad but at times you may see one or two. I love the set up compared to the other dorms because its Jack and Jill style. I know that initially I thought that sharing a bathroom with three other students would be hard however we never have moments when we run into each other because we are all on different schedules. The RA's and other building staff are very friendly and helpful. If you ever have an issue in your room and put in a service request with maintain you are guaranteed a visit the same day if not early morning the next day. The TV signal reception is great especially for a college. I personally purchased a Coax Cable to receive the local channels and the reception is amazing. I would recommend that you purchase an Ethernet cable and an adaptor because there are some days when the internet acts funny and those will come in handy the days you have a test online or a really important assignment. The cellular reception in the building is great. I always have full bars no matter where I go. The laundry rooms are located on floors, 2, 3, and 4 and its 100% free. The dining hall is right across the walk way from the building so you do not have to go far to access food however I would recommend that you save a copy of the schedule because there are days they close early. Overall I'm very happy with my decision to reside in Pearson Residential College. When you get here you will see how friendly everyone is no matter what floor you go on and you wont be disappointed. I love the University of Miami and I'm proud to be a Cane.
