Hatch Dorm Reviews at Mizzou

Hatch is somewhere that is not convenient location wise as it is on the edge of campus not close to much. It is close to one of the big dining halls but other than that not anything else. The place is a little run down and could definitely use an update.

When I moved into Hatch, the room was still pretty dirty, their was old silverware in between the desks. The bathrooms are community stye and they were really gross. The students who worked at the front desk were always nice and helpful though. The rooms are pretty small.

Hatch has a bad reputation, that's for sure. In ways, it does live up to that reputation. The residents did not seem to care to be clean or courteous most of the time, due to the already demonizing nickname "Hatch Nasty". You could also hear your neighbors easily through the walls and vents, which was unfortunate. However, it had some good sides. It is located in a great spot on campus, where most things are a quick walk away. It's also connected to Baja Grill, which is a favorite to most Mizzou students. The staff cleaned the common areas daily. Unfortunately, maintenance could be a bit slow to fixing some things. I recall one time that one of the toilets had broken after someone used it, and maintenance didn't get in to fix it for at least 3 days. This may not seem like much, but it was quite an inconvenience to travel downstairs to the first floor to use the unisex bathrooms (the only unisex bathrooms in the dorm) many times a day for multiple days. I also recall having to do this when the lady who typically cleaned our bathrooms left to give birth, and the new maintenance man only cleaned the bathrooms a couple times a week. Frequently we were left without toilet paper for whole days at a time. I wouldn't blame the dorm itself for this oversight, but it was definitely an issue. Overall, Hatch Hall is certainly livable, especially at the cost compared to the other dorms. After living there for two semesters, I still don't think it would be worth the extra $1000+ for a different dorm. However, if you have the extra money to spend, there are certainly nicer dorms, such as Wolpers.

I moved to Schurz (right next to it) from Hatch and Schurz was so much better even though it was only 100 feet away! Stay in another dorm if you can because Hatch has a weird smell, is really far off campus, and the bathrooms are not cleaned as well. However, if you want to save money I highly recommend Schurz or Hatch.

I lived in hatch for my freshman first semester so far and I have enjoyed staying there. It is a nice quiet environment located perfectly on the Mizzou campus. I am very close to food and other resources such as the student center and Memorial Student Union.

It has been a very interesting, awesome new journey away from home. On my own learning how to defend and advocate for my self. Learn to keep up with the maintenance of my own room and to develop a true friendship with my roommate. Thanks Lord for the experience.

Hatch was way to expensive for the limited amenities provided. It was always super load and stunk of weed but the RAs and ResLife wouldn't do anything about it. Besides all that it was an okay place to live. It was right there on campus and close to many restaurants. It was also the cheapest housing on campus, only thing cheaper was the off campus apartments.
