Oak Hall Dorm Reviews at MSU

It’s good. I like this one better than a traditional one because the bathrooms are in the room with a refrigerator and microwave kinda like a hotel room. It has a gym, kitchen and lounge on each floor. There are washers and dryers on each hallway and they are convenient for residents. It’s co-ed and many activities happen weekly. It’s about the community of students and what are their best interests. I would like to stay in this dorm for the duration of my school terms as it is close to my classes and the center of campus.

Oak Hall was my number one choice in dorms ever since my first college tour of Mississippi State University. I was very lucky to be assigned to live there. My experience was almost perfect and having my own bathroom, refrigerator, and desk was a major plus for me and my roommate. The communal kitchen was always clean. When I volunteered for the Access Program, the kitchen was always ready for my mentee and I to cook meals together. Oak Hall also made my freshman experience hassle free with how close it was to my classes. I would recommend that anyone touring MSU should apply to live in Oak Hall. With all that being said, I have a very special story about moving into Oak Hall. My best friend from high school was undecided of where she was going to attend college. So, I had no one listed as my roommate because I was waiting for her to make a decision. At the time, to get top priority, the applicant had to list both yourself and who you would would be living with on the application. After a couple of months, my roommate decided that she would be attending Mississippi State University with me. We turned in the application long after it became open to the future students to start filling out. We were very worried that we were not going to be able to live together or get the dorm we requested. As luck may have it, Dr. Mark Keenum visited our school in Meridian, MS. My roommate and I got the chance to speak to him ourselves and our predicament came up in conversation. He was so kind and generous to tell us that he would put our names on the top of the list and said that we could request any dorm we wanted. With all of the uncertainty my roommate and I had, Dr. Keenum put our minds to ease. We were so ecstatic about what had just happened and this made us so much more grateful for what we were going to have.

Oak Hall is not what I would expect a 'normal' college dorm to be like. I have been blessed with only one roommate and our own bathroom... that's crazy. Oak Hall is equipped with a lot of safety elements, it takes a student ID card to get into the building, and then certain ID cards to open the hall to your dorm, and then your specific ID card to open your own dorm room. The dorm is located next to a ton of other freshman dorms as well which makes it a lot easier to meet people!!
