International Village Dorm Reviews at NU

They put my roommate and I in one of the forced doubles and did not let us switch even though there were standard double rooms open. We basically lived in a shoebox so small that only one person could stand in the walk path of the room. It was not even wide enough to have two people stand side by side. Never again.

I had a pretty good experience at International Village. Having the dining hall on the first floor is very convenient. Due to covid, we were not allowed to use the gym; however, if that was open, I believe I would have enjoyed my experience even more. Furthermore, having a shared bathroom is very nice for general privacy and cleanliness. I would say the walls were a little bit thin, so there was a lot of noise most nights.

Pretty loud with the NUPD right next door and super thin walls (but that's every residence hall here). The view is amazing compared to the other residence halls and the rooms/bathrooms themselves are relatively new and clean. Nice to have a semi-private single (single sharing a bathroom with another single) but rent is way overpriced ($6125 a semester).

International Village is actually a nice dorm to live in as a first-year. However, since the building is so big, it's hard to get to know everyone. The dining hall is in the building, so it is very convenient to grab a meal. The location isn't bad since it is pretty close to campus. However, the walls are very thin, so you could literally hear everything that happens on this floor. Depending on how quiet your neighbors on, you'll hear their conversations. The dorms are smaller than usual, but not too bad.

Compared to other schools, the dorm itself is not the biggest, but suffices. I have a jack-and-jill bathroom that I share with my suitemates. Having my own sink in my room is very convenient. A big window at the end of the room allows plenty of light and a nice view. There is AC and heating. It's slightly inconvenient that the only trash chute is on the first floor but nothing I can't handle. There are eight elevators to choose from. The only complaint I have would be the paper thin walls. Half the blame does go to my very loud neighbors who talk day and night, but the wall does little to absorb any of the sound. Otherwise its clean and I like the layout.

Suites with shared bathroom. Walls super thin. AC great for summer, but definitely gets cold during the day. Only warm at night during winter (my experience at least). Great dorm if you like to have your own space.

Although some ratings were low, I would say that my experience was top tier. The dorm was in an amazing location where everything including public transportation was more than easily accessible. Definitely a place to check out!
