Van Antwerp Hall Dorm Reviews at NMU

Very welcoming and incredibly kind people. There weren't a lot of issues in the building I was living in, my RA was amazing my freshman year, and I really enjoyed being able to live in an all girls hall my first year.

The atmosphere here in VA is like a family. Each side of the hall has a "house" and the RA routinely plans events with the house to get them involved and connected. The RA's are close-knit with each other and taught how to handle many situations and clearly demonstrate that throughout the semesters. The maintenance team is phenomenal! Super quick response, hard workers, and super sweet.

Van Antwerp was overall really amazing. The only issue I would say is that it was sometimes a little bit chilly when the in dorm heaters couldn't quite keep up with Marquette winters. I would still give VA a 9/10 though.

Van Antwerp Hall has multiple common areas for students to congregate, a community kitchen, and multiple security measures to keep students safe. The community kitchen doesn't get maintained often, but it is easy to access. There are many opportunities to participate in hall government and become involved with the overall student body. If you're attending NMU and considering living in The Woods, I would highly suggest saving your money and choosing Van Antwerp or another second quad hall instead.

I would say that it was overall a good experience and plan to go back next semester. The staff was very nice and the cement walls made it much more quiet than the newer dorms on campus. I don’t like how the bathroom doors lock on the outside but as long as you knock it’s usually okay.
