The Village at Centennial Square Dorm Reviews at SF State

Village was great. I got an on campus apartment experience. I loved that the water always was warm. The locations great as well. The walls are thing unfortunately so that was an issue. It was safe and difficult to get into if you didn’t live there which I loved.

I lived on the top floor of Village in a single with my window facing the quad where Village Market is. Since our windows were there, it was pretty loud all the time (yes even in true middle of the night) my roommates and I became bestfriends really quickly and did everything together pretty much. We made friends super easily and it was easy to make friends since everyone lives together. We would be up all night as well as the people outside so the noise didn’t bother us, and our floor at the time was known for being loud and getting in trouble so if you’re in that scenario and don’t like it that way, for that you could just request a room change and you’ll be fine. They had a lot of activities for the dorms to do together so you do get to mingle and also have some fun together. I seriously like the location of Village since the bus stop is right next to the building and the view I had was super beautiful every day (which I miss). The gym is right across the street and all the class rooms were close by since you are pretty much in the best location. Village market was my roommate and I’s go to for food and snacks every single day haha. Subway is right next to Villmar but the store has hot food and everything too that’s super good so I recommend that over subway. There’s little cafes and food nearby just a few steps away too, and the dorm food places also were just right down the stairs which is super close. Like I said, Village is the best location on campus for housing and I don’t regret living there AT ALL. I had friends in every dorm building and their dorms never compared.. sorry for that. You won’t regret living there on campus if you do choose to live on campus, and most likely will make tons of friends if you let yourself just be open to talking to people right away since everyone there is a freshman too, so don’t be nervous, I promise you you will love it if you just come in with open arms :) I’m the most shy and awkward person and I let myself not be so scared right in the beginning and was just myself and it was the best decision of my life and I made a lot of new relationships that I won’t forget. Also a bit thingggg, the bus is free so you can go anywhere in San Francisco for FREE.... take advantage of that but don’t forget to make the last bus by 1:00 am if you’re out late if you don’t want to pay for an uber home (that happened a lot). I hope you have fun but please stay safe!! It still is a tough city, I grew up in the bay so I’m used to it, but if you’re not from here be aware of everything you’re doing and what’s around you at all times if you’re out no matter what time it is or how many people you’re with.

Before I start, I just want to say that not all dorms are present with the same issue(s). My dorm was on the third floor of Village, which I find myself so lucky because the laundry room was nearby. Several steps and you're at the washing room. At first, I thought I hit a jackpot because the dorm was big, has 2 washrooms, and 2 bedrooms. The living room was big and so were the bedrooms. My bedroom was extremely spacious and the studying view was not bad. My roommate and I have a walk-in closet too. It was fine until we started to live there. The pipes under the sink started to leak and all hell broke loose. Our carpet was drenched like soggy toast dipped in water. It took them a month or two to finally fix the problem under the sink. Not to mention the pressure of the shower head was so weak that it was hard to actually shower. If you have a lot of hair, expect 30 minutes to an hour in the shower. The problem was fixed after winter break, after a couple of months. Other than that, the area is very safe and nice to live in. Very pricey but it's really nice.

The Village was the best dormitory at San Francisco State University due to its safety and close to the supermarket. This dorm was the most cleanliness housing area out of all the dorms on campus. I was very disappointed when I couldn't continue living there in my junior and senior year.

Overall, it was okay because it was the nicer side of dorm life however it could have been better! Whether it was the dated bathrooms or the faulty oven I had, we had our fair share of issues. The nice thing about it was the location!
