Mae Smith Towers Dorm Reviews at SIU

I live on the seventeenth floor. We have lots of visitors due to it being on the top floor. The fire drills are a pain. I get it being an aviation major you will have to love to be in the air. It is the penthouse of Mae Smith.

well I live bye my self in the dorm, dorms are connected by the bathroom and I don't have "next" door neighbors across the bathroom so its pretty chill and quiet. I keep the maintenance of my dorm room and bathroom to a great point. Rooms are decent size its not very big like your living room or master bedroom in your house. location wise, its pretty far in my opinion from the campus and there is no good view of the campus comparing to the other side. over all my rating of the tower dorm would be 3.75/5 not bad and not good.

My stay at Mae Smith was overall satisfactory. I felt like I was still living in a Chicago apartment but will all college students. For the majority of my time I enjoy my experience staying in the towers. I don't really have many cons against the dorms besides the kitchen. Each kitchen on each floor is lock. I also lived on the second floor out 17 floors which makes life more convenient for me. I never have to wait for long elevators because I always take the stairs.

My experience was decent. The noise level could get a bit obnoxious at times, and I was kept awake or woken up many times throughout the semester. Overall, I didn't dislike it there, I just wish the other students living in the towers would be more considerate.

I am a freshmen here living in mae smith and my experience so far has been lovely the RAs have been very nice and heart warming through this pandemic and helping us with anything and everything we need and its very calm and always quiet

Mae Smith is the perfect dorm for a college student. It is the best place to make friends and be alone. With rooms only being occupied it is easier to make the room your own and have a quiet place. Each floor has its own "hangout/study" room for groups. You also only have to share a bathroom with one other person so thats good as well. Mae Smith is great!

Mae Smith Towers is a nice buliding to live in it is often very clean the only down side I see to have about it is that since I'm at the 17th floor and there is train tracks near us is that its the loudest thing you hear at 1 am and sometimes it could wake you up cus the train is often using their horn.

Mae Smith Hall has a nice common area. There are plenty of places to sit and study. You can watch tv if you'd like, play video games, or play pool. There's also a kitchen for you and friends to cook. It's well maintained and cleaned daily, however the couches could use a deep cleaning. It's overall pretty safe because you need a key to enter the building. Mae Smith also has a nice location because it's in the middle of surrounding residence halls, and it only takes a couple minutes to walk to the Dining Hall. The only real complaint I have is that it can be very noisy. I've heard people running through the halls and playing loud music past quiet hours. The RA's on the floor try to lower the noise levels, but it can still get pretty loud.

At first I was not sure Id I was going to like staying in the towers because there are a lot more people than the previous dorm I stayed in. The floor I am staying on is louder and there are not as many washer and dryers.

Honestly, as far as dorms go, Mae Smith wasn't too bad. It's considered the "Nerdy" tower, but it's nice. We had the least amount fights a false fire alarms of the three dorms. The rooms are the biggest of any dorms in public schools in Illinois (at least that's what we were told and from the few other dorms I've been to, I believe it). Also, you share a bathroom with a suit mate, rather than community bathrooms, which is always nice!
