Hillcrest Hall Dorm Reviews at University of Iowa

I lived here my first semester of college and I loved it. It was a great experience to be living away from home and living with another person. It was really nice to be able to customize our room the exact way we wanted it. The dinning hall was located in the building so it was really nice to have easy access to go get food during the meal times. There was always a lot of options to choose from at every meal. There was also a little convince store in the building which was nice if you didn't like what was being offered for the meals or if you wanted a snack or drink. I really liked how each room had its own sink in the room. This made it much easier to get ready in the morning so you didn't have to go all the way to the community bathroom. The only downside to living here was that most of the classes were on the otherwise of campus. The bus system was really nice to use when it was cold but the walk was about 11-15 minutes depending on where you had to go. Overall I had a great experience and would recommend the dorm life for any college freshman!

My experience at Hillcrest Hall has been overwhelmingly positive. I lived in the Unidos LLC and made so many friends with the other members. The bathrooms are always very clean and the rooms are a good size. The heaters can be very noisy when they turn on, with some whistling, clanking, and popping sounds. The A/C units are very good and much quieter.

Living in Hillcrest Hall has been an adjustment. I was so used to having my own room back at home. I however love the adjustment. I love having a roommate and friends always around me. The bathrooms are always so clean and the common areas are so well kept!

Hillcrest wasn't the fanciest or most updated of the dorms at UofI, but frankly, there wasn't much to complain about. I was only there for two semesters and had a perfectly fine time! It wasn't always very clean, but that had more to do with a large number of college students than the staff or the dorm itself.

Overall cleanliness and space could be improved but it was a nice dorm hall. My experience was on the least occupied floor five, and as such the other occupants were very quiet and kept to themselves. If I was on another floor I feel that there would be friendlier occupants.

Hillcrest is very close to the bridge connecting both sides of the campus, making it easier to get to classes anywhere on campus. The library is just down the road and is at most a five minute walk, an easy task for a college student. The staff are very friendly and always make it a point to start up conversations to the students.

My experience at Hillcrest Hall was not a "typical" dorm experience. The floor I was on was a very quiet floor. Not many of the girls mingled with each other. The girls were also not into partying except for one room, which was one room down from us. I did not get to meet many of the girls on my floor. We did have monthly meetings but I was unable to attend due to work. We had a cafeteria in our hall which was amazing, but it became very repetitive. The staff, maintenance, and cleanliness were amazing compared to stories you hear of other dorm halls.

It’s super nice but the people can be kinda loud especially on weekends. It seems like no one really has any regard for other people at 11pm in a school night. But the staff is nice and rooms are nice.

So far my experience has been pretty good. Hillcrest has done a very good job with COVID-precautions and everyone here is so friendly and outgoing. It's very easy to make friends while still saying a safe distance apart from one another. However, we have had to deal with bugs in our room and that was not a pleasant experience. This small hiccup is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things due to the fact that I really enjoy living in Hillcrest! Having a dining hall in your building feels like a luxury and I really love the separation of boys and girls floors.
