Bursley Dorm Reviews at University of Michigan

Bursley is located on the north campus of UMich, which is not ideal for most individuals. I have found the commute to be rather nice because it allows for an escape from the craziness of central. The nearby gym is a perk, as well as the outdoor landscape.

I lived in Bursley for three years. While the food was nothing fancy, there was on-site dining. All staff I met were friendly. Occasionally, there would be problems where a shower was turned off for maintenance, but there were plenty per hall, so this never caused me an issue directly. Excellent and plentiful study spaces, and many excellent community-building initiatives. The highlight is the Living Arts Engine learning community and their Creative Suite lounge in the basement.

The social scene is the best part of this dorm. It is not the cleanest and not the best looking. The rooms are okay and the bathrooms are bearable. However, it is the best dorm for North campus students.

I was disappointed in being placed in Bursley due to the location and poor reputation. However, due to the location, I was able to form close friendships with many of the other people stuck there. Having a dining hall in the building was super nice.

It was alright. If you are an engineer student or a musical theater/music student then it's the perfect place for you to stay but if the majority of your classes are on central campus, then it will not be such a great place as you will feel far from campus/classes. At least being around nature and turkeys and deer was nice haha!

I lived at Bursley during the fall of COVID. Although the cleaning crew was very nice and diligent, there were many maintenance issues with our hall's bathroom. Bursley has no AC, which means it gets very very hot at the beginning of the semester. It is removed from central campus, but it's very pretty if you enjoy walks with plenty of trees. The bus system is close and convenient.

Entering Bursley during a pandemic, I was acutely aware of the covid precaution the dorm was taking. Mask policy was not heavily enforced and there were many holes in the rules, evidently resulting in some covid outbreak in Bursley but most prominently in other dorms on campus, with the same rulesets. The University of Michgian did not do a good job.

I stayed in Bursley in the Fall of 2020. Because of Covid, all common areas and the dining hall were closed to residents. While there was nothing that could have been done to change that, the dorms were a lot less social than normal. I think after the pandemic Bursley will be a great place to live. It is far from central campus, however the nature around the building is truly beautiful and Central Campus is a really short bus ride away.

Bursley was a great place to live as a freshman. It is a very social building, so it's easy to make friends. Overall it was a great experience, but compared to other dorm buildings, I'm not sure how it holds up. No AC was difficult in the first few weeks and being isolated from central campus could be seen as a good or bad thing. It is, however, very pretty, filled with nature, and great for walks and runs!

I lived in Bursley as a 3rd year undergraduate student. There were many freshmen and sophomores which made me an odd match to begin with. The halls will have your typical younger underclassmen but overall it was a pleasant experience. It obviously makes more sense to live on North Campus if you have classes up North. Definitely recommend over Baits I or II which felt like islands with no one around.

Very far from central campus and the shower curtains had mold. While I did not have a great social experience in Bursley because I spent a lot of time on central campus hanging with friends, I know some people did find "their people" in Bursley. It is the largest dorm on campus.

Bursley is quietly located on north campus. It has many natural beauties around it making you feel away from the loudness of the city. I enjoy how it's not as crowded, and you're able to quickly find a study spot compared to central. Though I would say that Bursley is not as well renovated as the other dorms, and that there is a worry about how clean the bathrooms actually are especially the showers. I would definitely recommend Bursley to someone who is introverted and likes the outdoors.
