Frontier Hall Dorm Reviews at University of Minnesota

Not the best dorm, but out of all of them, it is not that bad. Nice location in superblock. Bathrooms were ok, would have been nicer if the showers weren't so close to eachother and had more thana flimsy cover on it.

Overall, my experience at Frontier Hall was positive. Frontier Hall has a lot of academic living learning communities that help students pursuing difficult degrees like engineering and biology feel supported, and I was in the Biology LLC. Frontier is also very close to campus and one building away from Pioneer Hall, which is currently the largest, newest, and nicest dining hall on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus. It was the last to have locks installed on the bathroom doors, so it received a poor safety and bathroom rating from me for that reason.

I really enjoyed my stay here! I lived in a suite with a shared bathroom, which was very convenient. I lived in the Taylor House for Engineering Community. Everyone was pretty nice and mostly quiet, but on occasion people would chill in the hallway and talk, which can be frustrating if you're not up for the noise, but overall not a big deal. Frontier Hall has a lot of study rooms, which are often in use, but most of them are big enough to share if you're willing. My biggest complaint about this building is that you're only supposed to enter/exit out of the front door by the lobby. There are exits at the end of each hallway, but opening them sets off an alarm. There are no card scanners on the outside of these doors, so you can't get in unless your friend comes and gets you. This building has so many hallways and wraps around itself so many times, that this rule is very annoying and quite an inconvenience. It is also often ignored. Since the dorms are in the middle of the city, this makes sense for security reasons, but it's really annoying. I lived on the top floor and in the hallway that was a poorly thought out addition to the building, it took me 5 minutes to get from the lobby to my room everyday. That sucked. They also had staffing issues while I was there, so the 24-hour desk in the lobby was not open 24 hours. Pro tip, don't lock yourself out of your room if there's no one at the front desk. Other than those few things, I really liked living in Frontier. It's about a 10 minute walk from the East side of campus. You have to cross the street before you can get into the Gopher Tunnels that connect all of the buildings if you're trying to avoid the snow. Taking the tunnels can add about 5 minutes to your travel time though. Frontier is right next to Pioneer, which has the dining hall. A lot of people complain about the food in college, but honestly if you get whatever is hot/fresh, it's pretty good. They have a make-your-own-sandwich-bar that I used a lot when I was running late on classes and lunch at the same time. Beware of turkeys... They're everywhere.

I lived in the "Biology House" section of Frontier Hall. We were fortunate to be in the suites that had large rooms with a common bathroom that adjoined to the adjacent room. Overall, my experience in the dorm was a great one; I made friends there with whom I am still friends today. My roommate was a challenge but looking back it gave me a lot of experience learning to live with people who are vastly different than myself.

It's a great place to live your first year with great people. Super nice to be in superblock around all the other freshman and you meet a ton of new people. I always feel safe inside and all the amenities are well maintained and fairly clean.

Frontier Hall was ideal for studying and a great place to live! The rooms were nicely sized and the overall dorm reasonably spacious. This dorm hall is known for being the most quiet, and as a engineering student, I was pleased that this held true throughout the year! I really appreciated the quiet during late hours; additionally, I found it the study lounge (common area) to be a great place to do homework or hang out with friends. Overall, I recommend this hall.

Frontier Hall is safe, relatively quiet (inside the dorm), and clean. The downsides are that the design of the building is rather prison-like. It is also directly next to a hospital so the noise from outside can be bothersome sometimes, but all the dorms on superblock have the same noise issue from the proximity to the hospital. Overall it is nicer than some other dorms at UMN.

It is a comfortable hall, it gives you a great college experience. It is nice to have bathrooms very close however there are roaches in the shower drains. Pretty gross but other than that very clean and comfortable.

Frontier is a great location! I love the layout and common areas. I think everything is maintained well - cleanliness is not a concern! I think all the amenities and resources help the experience. I like how it is in superblock!

It has been interesting being in a dorm during a pandemic, so I am sure my experience has been different from other years. It genuinely seems like all the staff is doing their best to keep us safe and I appreciate that. It has been fairly quiet, but there are fewer residents than normal.

It is very fun and filled with excitement. The location is wondering and everything is nearby. I also like the food, especially the morning breakfasts. One thing that could approve is the layout of the building. At first, many freshmen get lost and are confused. However, after I while, they grab the hang of it. Overall an excellent experience.

My floor is reserved for engineering students. It is called Taylor Hall. Covid sucks and is destroying the dormitory experience. They have ping pong tables which is where I go since we are not allowed to go into other rooms due to covid
