Sanford Dorm Reviews at University of Minnesota

Sanford was not my first choice of dormitory, but I was pleasantly surprised with my time there. The dining hall, located in the same building, was the best on campus. There was always enough food and a pretty good variety. Also, the small market in the commons was a great solution to late-night study snacks. The bathrooms and common areas were sometimes dirty. However, the location was the best part of Sanford. Dinkytown is awesome.

Sanford is a very typical residence hall. Nothing crazy about the rooms or facilities, but the hidden study rooms in the basement and laundry are a huge plus. The dining hall is fine but the hours are mediocre and it tends to be subpar compared to Pioneer or 17th Ave. The location is nice except for people who have a lot of classes on west bank, but being near dinkytown and Target is great. Overall, decent dorm but don't expect luxury.

My experience at the Sanford hall has been very mixed. The rooms are ok but the outlet situation isn't that great so you do need extension cords. Although the people don't get very loud, since the hall is shaped like an open box the sounds of cars passing gets quite loud. When you have your window open in the night a motorcycle will blast by and the sound will ricochet off all the walls and wake you up; however you will get used to it.

Sanford was a decent dormatory that was quiet for the most part aside from the sport car racers and frat parties outside the dorm. the dorms themselves were not bad, typical dorms. However, depend on which side you were on would determine comfortability. the Tower side has no AC and the beginning of fall is brutal, the renovated side has adjustable act per room. The tower side also has shared bathrooms, while the renovated side has single bathrooms. It really is a luck of the draw here.

I liked living at Sanford for a lot of reasons such as how quiet it was and the location. It was a nice place to get used to college life because it was away from the chaos of superblock area. I also really like all of the storage but I did not like that it did not have air conditioning.

Elevators and bathrooms are constantly out of order, including doors ripped off their hinges, puke etc. Music from frat houses nearby is constantly audible. Food was adequate at best. Convenience store located within the building.
