Porter Quadrangle Dorm Reviews at UB

Porter Quad consists of mainly upperclassmen, especially on the floor I resided on (9th floor). Overall the staff was nice and responsive whenever there were lockouts or things of that nature. The maintenance and custodial staff were also very friendly.

it was very nice and comfortable. i lived with my friend, who was my roommate my freshman year. she became my bestfriend and we requested to be roommates the following year. it was overall a great experience and very comfortable to live in.

My dorm was pretty nice, it was very spacious due to the fact that it's made for three individuals but due to Covid there could only be two individuals in a room. The dorm complex was conveniently located next to the food court which made dining accessible and easy. The bathrooms were shared with 6 other guys and usually clean during the weekdays but started to look a bit dirty on weekends when janitors had off. I used the kitchen a few times to make noodles and it was mostly clean except for some leftover food in the drain at all times. The halls were usually quiet and people were courteous to their hall-mates. Besides me nitpicking a few things, I would definitely recommend living in this complex.

The entirety of Ellicott Complex, which is the larger building that Porter Quadrangle is a part of, doesn't have any cooling units, central or otherwise, so the first three or four weeks of classes can be absolutely terrible. The heating system is good, so once it gets cold outside, the situation is much better. The layout is easy to understand, the elevators and stairwells are taken care of pretty well, and the common rooms are maintained as far as the staff are concerned- it was more the residents that were leaving messes behind.
