Friley Dorm Reviews at ISU

I think my experience as a Friley resident would be much better if not for COVID-19 and all the restrictions set in place as a result. The size of my room in Friley is great, but my particular section has closets built into the wall that I am not a fan of. My bathroom is always clean and I never have a problem getting a shower or sink, but only two showers actually have good pressure and hot water. Also, if I had a sink in my room it would make my experience 100x better.

I have been able to meet my best friends at Friley Hall. It is a fun place to be and new people are always around. Most commonly you'll see students of the same major in the same section because of the chosen Learning Communities. This is particularly helpful when you have any questions, especially with the COVID-19 situation. Friley has great people in a great location.

Friley has the perfect location along Lincoln Way and on campus. It is close to many buildings and has multiple bus stops within a 2 minute walk at most. This is a huge building with multiple common rooms available to its residents. There is also a dining hall within it, so on days with bad weather, you won't have to step foot outside.

It's a good dorm for the price. Try to get a corner room as they are typically a bit bigger. The building is pretty old, don't be surprised if it takes a week or two to process a maintenance request. Desk staff are nice though

Friley's location has to be the best part about it. It is right by Lake LaVerne and the MU, as well as many places where class could be held. The building is quite old, so bathrooms and rooms can be dingy. I know that my room is quite small, however, most rooms are bigger. The building itself is huge, so many students get lost in the middle of it. Students who live here are often Engineering or Art students who are quite shy and intellectual, but there are outliers in such a large dormitory. Personally, I love it and would recommend to anyone coming to ISU.

I love living in Friley. Having two dining halls in close proximity is great especially in the winter when it is cold. There is also the Cyride stop right outside of Friley which is very convenient. Highly recommend anyone to live in this dorm compared to others.

Friley is a very big dorm, even after living there for a year I still didnβt fully know my way around. Itβs a co-ed door. Thereβs always something going on and thereβs always people out and about so itβs not very quiet. Itβs also across the street from all the bars so thereβs always noise going on outside. Itβs a good place if you are someone who is very sociable and likes making friends.

Friley was a great residence hall to live in at Iowa State. Although there are a few issues such as long waits on maintenance requests. Showers flooding and the dining center Friley Windows being sub-par at best.
