Loved it honestly. It was my first time on a college campus (other than college tours) and it couldn’t have been better. The rooms was spacious and the bathrooms were clean. Everyone was respectful and it was peaceful and quiet. Only thing I hated was that there was no cafe in my building but it was two close by so it wasn’t that bad. Overall my experience there was great, would high recommended. more

New Hall East

New Hall East is expensive, but it is worth the money if you have it. Overall it was clean and safe. The dorm was quiet and is very new. Everything is in great condition including, the beds, desks, closets, bathrooms, and fridge. This dorm includes a minifridge and there is a common room with a microwave and sink. more

New Residence Hall West

I have only visited new residence halls, I will be living there this fall but the rooms are extremely clean and very up to date, this dorm hall would be great to stay in. I am excited to meet new friends in the wonderful clusters that they have, being on a floor with 7 other people can also expand my social skills. more

Neptune east

Overall, Neptune east was a good fit for my first year here at NIU. The location was perfect for me when attending classes, getting food, and the bus system. However, the overall cleanliness of Neptune east, needs serious work. There is mold in the second floor showers that haven’t been dealt with. The noise complaints were often and disorienting, along with male workers working in the women bathroom, making me feel uncomfortable when going in the morning. I also wish the building was elevated in terms of design and efficiency, one idea including an elevator. Overall, a good dormitory experience, but not without its flaws. more

Neptune North Hall

Overall Neptune North Hall is a good dorm to stay at because it is one of the cheapest halls on campus and is in a good location, near the student center and the library as well as near two bus stops. The location is safe and the environment is calm. The dorm could use some updating because it is an old building it needs maintenance but for the price of staying at the dorm and the location, the minor cosmetic inconveniences can be overlooked. more

Stevenson Tower B

Stevenson Tower B, is relatively clean and staff is always on hand for any maintenance needed. The bathrooms can get to the point of unusable but that's the students that stay on the door rather than the staff. I've never had a problem with the heat or air and I enjoyed my stay in this tower. Will be staying in this tower again next semester. more

Stevenson Tower A

The rooms in the suites are a lot smaller than the rooms the regular dorms. However the suites are nicer if you get a bathroom because that way you're only sharing the bathroom with 3 other people. There's also a living room area that anyone in the suite can use. The communal bathrooms are honestly not clean because of how many people use them and how often they use it. The cleaning staff does a great job at cleaning but the people can be very unhygenic. more

Grant is an amazing place to stay! I personally believe it’s the best because it’s not the most expensive and you get a large room! It is near the stadium and is right by the dining hall! Staff is great and they keep everything clean! more

New Hall West

During my time at New Hall West I was a Community Advisor, so I got to see all the ins and outs of the building and how it was run. New Hall West was by far my favorite place to live when I lived on campus during undergrad. The amenities are amazing and the building is kept fairly clean compared to most residence halls. I loved living here. more

Grant Towers North

Its the cleanest tower in campus but it's not the safest as theres always cops outside at night and the people here are loud and you can hear them in the middle of the night. During the weekends its very calm and its the perfect time to do homework. The bathrooms are clean most of the times but sometimes the people in dorm leave a mess. The dorms on the other hand are bigger than expected and overall just a nice place to be at. more

Patterson Hall Complex - West

Your experience at Patterson Hall West depends on the floor you are on. Everyone's cluster is different. If you like a quieter space, choose a corner room. Rooms that are right outside the cluster space can be loud. The Community Advisors (CA) are nice and understanding as well. more

Stevenson Tower D

I really like living here but it can get very very noisy and the CA/RA's have limited power it seems. Grant towers are more 'ghetto' but Stevenson can have some tricky people hanging around it from time to time. Overall its been great for me, i like living up high, but for many of my friends it could stand to be a whole heck of a lot better. more

Northern Illinois University Grant Tower was very interesting. The people that stayed in the building was mostly students and they were friendly. They also had great food options and security on site. more
