Walker Tower Dorm Reviews at University of Oklahoma

My dorm experience has been good so far, the towers are old but I like having all four of my roommates connected rooms together. I would rather have a nicer dorm, such as cross but walker is not as bad as I thought it would be whenever I first moved in.

I’d say it was just about your average college dorm experience. I’d definitely recommend a dehumidifier and decorations. I think it’s great that there’s something going on, or somebody up, just about every time of the day. There’s also great tornado safety, and the power typically stays on during tornadoes.

The experience of building many and lasting friendships through walker was great for a first year student. However the living conditions were not as amazing. The building is super old and outdated, many students complained of sickness and heavy allergies from living in the walker tower, but it was the most affordable option for students to live in.

Although I made the best out of my time in Walker Tower, it was very difficult to live in this dormitory. I tried my best to stay out of this building as much as possible. There were no windows, so the room was dark and saddening. The furniture provided creaked and was nearly broken. The bathroom was another problem within itself. The shower would not drain, the corners of the bathroom were molded. Due to the mold in the AC's and areas around the room, my roommates and I were constantly sick, and one of them even had some sight issues due to the mold. Luckily this dorm will be torn down soon, and a building that is actually livable will replace it.

I didn’t enjoy living in walker very much it is super outdated and needs to be updated. I also have a heart problem so breathing in those mold filled dorms gave me a cough for a long time. I did enjoy how close everyone was and it was really a true dorm experience.

When I was a freshman in Walker (rm: 736W), I had an incredible time. The tower structure really helped build a sense of community. The location was great because all of my classes were within walking distance. I used to sit out in the WAM (Walker-Adams Mall) and study with friends. I have pictures of my move-in and move-out and remember both days fondly. My move-out was in mid-March, as OU had just confirmed we would be attending school online for the remainder of the semester. To add to my story and experiences with the towers, I was also an RA for the 2020-2021 academic school year in Adams Tower. My first semester I was Johnson 1002 & 1004, and the in the Spring, Muldrow 602 & 604. As an RA, I really loved having the suite to myself. I remember spending hours in the office with my friends. We used to have fun hangouts in the RSA office behind Cane's every Friday night. We would watch the new episodes of Marvel shows when they would release and play video games like Monopoly Plus. I recently went back and visited campus (I graduated in December 2022) so that I could walk around and reminisce. Walker still stands, and I even got to visit my old floor. Sadly, Adams has been torn down for reconstruction. Seeing the ruins was a bitter-sweet moment. It was nice to see the new era for freshman housing at OU begin, but it was sad to see my temporary home gone.

For a freshman dorm at a D1 university, I was honestly not mad about my choice of living. The safety was great, we had multiple choices for common/study areas, and the environment was very welcoming. My RA was extremely nice and always made sure we were taken care of. The dorms give you an opportunity to meet so many new people and I loved my little room so much!

The rooms are extremely tight with you and another roommate, but I very much enjoy it there. It gets very humid and the bathrooms are a little sketchy, but that’s the only thing that is wrong! I love it there!

The floor was loud after 8 PM easily until 3 AM no matter the day of the week, the walls inside the room and bathroom began to warp and melt and were only replaced when I wouldn't stop complaining incessantly, the toilet and walls would randomly spill water everywhere for no reason which led to me injuring myself multiple times in the middle of the night due to surprise water slide, there were mold issues in the building that management considered to be "within acceptable ranges", your roommates might end up being super inconsiderate like mine so be wary, at one point in time there was a rat down in the common area in the base of the building, it was super nice to be so close to campus! Not worth the suffering however. Also it was mad expensive just to be trapped in a cement room that was moist and gross all the time. If you can, just get an apartment near campus. If you have to suffer, don't purchase the 10-12 meals a week plan, you will not eat that often.

Well... As far as freshman dorms go...I really don't have anything to go on...so I guess it was ok. At least I wasn't in a dorm that had community bathrooms! Overall though, I liked where it was located. To be from the 1960's or 1970's...It was better than I expected. My residence advisor was great. I have friends that didn't have very nice things to say about theirs so I guess I got lucky!

I thought it was a great bonding experience for all of us freshmen but I thought a renovation was long overdue. The location when thinking about walking to classes was not too bad, I liked how it was also close to the dining hall.

rooms are small but the building itself is very nice , right in the middle of everything as well. Staff and RA's are very chill and friendly. There are many food places around including the cafeteria which is right across the street from walker tower, very convenient

I can't say I expected a lot from a college dorm but they continue to paint over old mold rather than cleaning things out and changing air filters. I was sick my entire freshman year, as was everyone else from black mold toxicity.

It was the best of the three dorm buildings. However, mold was a very large issue and something that I was always worried about when I was living there. I think that, for the most part, the common areas were pretty clean and a good place to study or work on anything.

Walker Tower allows you to be with all the other college students. There is always a way to meet new people and have a true college dorm experience. I wouldn't have wanted to live in the residential colleges or anything because of the true experience Walker Tower gives students!

Living in Walker Tower was okay. It was definitely better than some of the other dorms on campus. I lived in a suite like room with a bathroom that was shared with another room. Our room and bathroom was fairly clean during move in. We had some issues with black mold in our air vents, which the University said they would take care of. I'm not sure of the current state of that issue. It was loud sometimes, but that's expected in a college dorm! Overall, I'd say it was a typical dorm experience!

Each floor of the building had different levels of noise. However, some were more loud than others. The location was perfect because it allowed students the opportunity to walk on the beautiful campus to class. Staff was very caring towards the students and were always there to support us. Making friendships and connections was easy in this environment.

I definitely like it more than I thought I would, it's clean and the RAs are super nice which was a concern of mine beforehand. It's a bit hard to share a bathroom with my suitemates because they like to wake me up at 3 in the morning but other than that it has been good.

Everyone is super friendly! I love OU and the opportunities it’s given me! The maintenance can be a little frustrating at times but it’s definitely manageable:) Me and my suite mates always ensure our bathroom is clean and maintained because we are all clean freaks! I have no noise complaints because I opted in for a single room and it was the best decision I ever made!

It’s a good place. Mostly quiet and fairly safe. I like the location and eating places. Only people with the access card can get on your floor. There are plenty of common areas and it’s co-Ed which I also like.
