Mark Elllingson Hall Dorm Reviews at RIT

All of the dorms at RIT are abysmal. Ellingson has issues with the elevators breaking every two weeks or so. I lived on the 11th floor, and I found myself taking the stairs more often than not because I could not count on the elevators working to get to class on time. Also, the laundry machines are often broken, often due to student misuse. Please learn how to do laundry properly before leaving for college. The rooms themselves are fine if you never want any privacy. In a two person room, your bed is about two feet away from your roommate's, and that is as far apart as they can be. I lived in a four person room, and we only had space because the beds were lofted, but the ceilings were too low. If you are taller than 5'8, you will probably not be able to sit up in bed. And the bedframes are only about five feet off the ground. Also, the heater is oppressive. It constantly leaks heat into the room, even though there is heat rising from the lower floors. Bring a humidifier, as the room get very dry.

My experience at Mark Ellingson Hall was great. There was never any noise on my floor and everyone was friendly. I was close to food places and the elevators were always getting fixed to make it better. I would recommend this dorm for incoming freshman.

Mark Ellingson was a very good choice. It was next door to the commons which was really good. It was also just a short walk from Gracies the main dining hall for first years. And it was pretty close to NRH which included free printing without needing to go all the way to academic campus.

Ellingson is the largest dorm and has the perks of AC as well of suite style bathrooms. This means opposed to sharing a bathroom with a whole floor you only share it with maybe 4 other people max. I will say the shower in these bathrooms are very small and another gripe I have is the fact the elevator breaks sometimes and the stairs can be a pain after a long day of classes. Otherwise the dorm is placed conveniently by the dining commons and is pretty secure I would recommend staying here if you choose a dorm to stay at on campus.
