Manokin Hall Dorm Reviews at SU

The building was well located on the campus. The cleaning staff kept the bathrooms and common areas as clean as they could when taking care of 75 residents. The maintenance staff flat out refused to take care of issues after hours even if a bathroom or shower was flooded.

It is a close knit helpful community. Starting university here has been amazing. The RD and the RAs are very friendly and helpful. They are students (the RAβs) that were/are honours students as well and provided a lot of help and insight while we were doing our essays. They also planned many fun hall activities to help us feel like part of the community despite the pandemic.

There are bug infestations in all of the rooms, the staff is not helpful when there is a problem, such as the smoke detector going off all day without anyone to fix it. There are bed bugs, lizards, cockroaches, flies, and spiders in rooms and the washing machines break and no one is ever at the RA desk.

I am a current freshman at SU residing in Manokin. Compared to the other high-rise buildings on campus, Manokin is better in so many ways. The rooms are bigger and suite-style, in addition to having less residents in the building if thatβs what you prefer. However, compared to the newer halls like Nanticoke, Manokin isnβt the best. Thereβs no elevator, so you always have to use the stairs. However, thereβs only three floors in the building so itβs not too bad, unless youβre constantly coming and going. Itβs a good walk away from the Commons (food) and on lazy mornings this is a nuisance. Also, the bathrooms are a little small to share between 4 people, since the doors are just stalls whereas in other buildings they have full-length doors. The room sizes vary drastically in Manokin, so you can either get a small room or one that could fit 4 people. All in all though, Iβm happy with the room, the view of the quad, and what it offers.
