Murray Dorm Reviews at Texas Tech

My experience here was amazing! There's a dining hall within the building so it's super convenient (especially on snowy days). It's also a 1 minute walk to the business building so I could wake up 10 minutes before class and never be late. There's always someone at front desk and everyone I meet is incredibly kind.

Murray is unique compared to the other dorms on campus. You not only have your own room, but a living/kitchen space to share with roommates. The dining hall inside has a ton of different food options. For example, there is the Cantina Mexican Grill, Gun's up Burgers, Sushi and the Double T diner. Although Murray is a bit far from most academic buildings, you will definitely get the prettiest view of campus any direction you come from. Plus, the Starbucks and Chick Fil A are a 1 minute walk away from Murray!

Maybe I got unlucky, but our shower and toilet broke all the time. Cold showers for several nights, using the second toilet in our dorm, water shutdowns, and so on plagued my roommates and I constantly throughout our first semester. In your dorm I hope you have a lot to hang on the wall because the amount of paint chips on the walls is, severe. The individual spaces are very nice and so are the full-sized fridge and microwave you are provided. Murray is located in a very convenient place on campus as: it is the safe side of campus, it is near the parking lot, and it is right next to Rawls. Rawls will be your best friend because as much as they say the food in Murray is good, it’s not that great and as the semester goes on, it becomes food-poison level. Rawls has a Chick-fil-A and an Einstein’s Brothers Bagels right next door for you convenience. That saved me. They will never fail you. For the average amount of food every day, it costs around $15-$20 (2 CFA meals or 2 Einstein’s sandwiches or 2 meal items from Murray). If you eat less, get a small meal plan, if you eat a lot, get the biggest. I cannot say much about the study-pods because we are currently in a pandemic, and unable to use them. They look really nice though. A lot of your dorm experience depends on your roommates. If you do not vibe with them in the first week, request. a. room. transfer. within. Murray. immediately. Telling you from experience ladies and gents. Also, for laundry, each floor has 5 washers and 5 dryers for everyone on that floor to use. They break constantly, are full constantly, and most of the time do not work properly. Do Not use the laundry system that Tech advertises online about “paying people to take your clothes and wash them each week!” because your clothes will not come back and nobody will care; but be aware that laundry will just be terrible. It’s like that in every dorm. I hope this helps anyone thinking about living in Murray. Wreck ‘em.
