Porter B Dorm Reviews at UC Santa Cruz

Living on campus is amazing and the dorm location is right near the base of campus so loop buses aren’t as full when they pass by. However, the co-ed floor had super dirty bathrooms and showers. People would not flush for some reason.

Although there's generally a lot going on, it is a great place to meet creative people. Would not recommend for people who want quiet and who do not want to be bothered, also great location by the meadows.

The people at Porter are very nice, creative, and friendly. The dining hall is very lively and the workers are very nice. It serves pretty decent food and it’s not the biggest dining hall but it is not intimidating. I lived on the 4th floor and I met some pretty cool people. Not every floor will entirely communicate but you can make friends with your neighbors. The triple room is not too crowded as long as you rearrange your beds, desks, and wardrobe. The bathroom is decent. Occasionally, the showers, toilets, or sinks have to go under maintenance but that is due to the floor occupants. It is cleaned regularly and if maintenance is required it will be repaired as fast as the next day. The windows do not fully open so it does get a bit warm at times in the dorm, so a fan is always beneficial. There is occasionally a funky smell that will waft around porter because the dining hall releases grease traps. It is not unbearable and you will only really smell it at certain times and if you are directly near it. I had the room right near the dining hall so I would occasionally get this smell or the smell of whatever was being served. I did not like when they were serving fish. Additionally, Porter has its own field which is very beautiful and relaxing to hang out in during the day or to watch the sunset. It also has a quad in between porter a and b which people can hang out and do activities in. I really enjoyed my stay at Porter. Even though it has its ups and downs, I don’t regret my stay there.

The location is very nice and quiet because it is surrounded by trees. It is close to the dining area. The only one thing I didn’t like about Porter B were the restrooms. The restrooms can become dirty really fast, but the maintenance workers do their best to make sure that the restrooms are clean throughout the entire week.

It was a fun experience. I met a lot of cool people and my initial perception of it being a weird disgusting place changed. My only qualms would be that people were really loud and the bathrooms were nasty. The workers were always very kind and would work hard to clean up our mess and fix our problems.

Fun, enjoyable.defintely the full dorm experience. A bit hectic at times but I enjoyed my time there. I was on the art hall but Porter is an amazing college full of creative people, and you'll meet all sorts of people up and down the building.

The transfer dorms were a great place to live. I had a great time meeting all of the fellow transfer students from all over California and the US. On occasion it would get kind of loud and dirty, but for the most part it was a great place to live.

The Porter B dorms are on the older side, but it is always filled with amazing people. It is a great place for first-year students to make friends with people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. The staff is kind and does their best to keep the common rooms and bathrooms clean. Since my time at Porter B, there has been new implementations to improve common spaces. In addition, the rooms are large and if people have issues with roommates, the RA's are very willing to help resolve conflict. There are always people by your side!
