Mayflower Hall Dorm Reviews at University of Iowa

Mayflower Hall is known for being the least desirable residence hall available at the University of Iowa. While I agree, I would say the staff does their best to keep everything in their power to make living there enjoyable. I do not enjoy living in Mayflower, but I do not hate living there either. Sometimes the stairs are a little dirty, but it is always picked up within the next 24 hours. My first day, we had to get the shower head in our suites' bathroom. This was an overall positive experience as the maintenance man was quick and prepared.

Many people you run into, in the halls or the elevator are very friendly. It's my first year living in dorms so I can't compare it to much, although I wish Mayflower had a dining hall. Sometimes it's hard to get crossed campus on time since Mayflower is distanced from the rest of the campus.

Mayflower Hall has a bad reputation, mostly for it's location, however it may be one of the better dorms at the University of Iowa. With buses coming at least every 10 minutes, the location is not really an issue. It was also very convenient to have a kitchen and bathroom with a shower right in the room. I also felt that I had more space in Mayflower Hall than many of the other dorms.

Mayflower Hall is a nice dorm because your room is suite-style, meaning you will share a kitchen and bathroom with only 3 other people. However, Mayflower is the furthest away from campus. It could take 15-20 minutes to walk to the Pentacrest and you will have to cross a busy street. The bus is free and a good option as long as you plan accordingly.

There is a small gym and study rooms in the dorm, which other dorms don't have. I've lived here for 2 years and not had any major issues with noise or people (I lived on the 8th floor and currently on the 3rd floor). It is 13 blocks from the Pentacrest, but busses usually come (there's an app to track where the busses are). Bathrooms are shared in apartment style rooms, overall rather nice, just a bit dated.

my experience at mayflower has been amazing and i am glad i chose this dorm. I have met some of my closes friends there and everyone is very friendly. The the bathroom and kitchen in the room are very convenient for when you are busy studying and dont have time to go to the dining hall.
