Rienow Hall Dorm Reviews at University of Iowa

Overall, my room has been excellent. I've had several run-ins with cockroaches, but nothing for the past few weeks. My RA is a great guy and very helpful. My only complaint is that I was given a dorm room that is separated from the rest of the rooms on the floor by a locking door. I feel like I would be much more connected to the rest of the floor had my room not been placed where it is, and frankly I'm not sure why it has to be this way. Also, the AC is a bit inconsistent. The desk workers are always friendly and most of the people I meet here are friendly as well.

Despite being on the west side of campus Rienow is still a great dorm to be in. It's a 2 min walk to Hillcrest Hall which has one of the best dining halls on campus. The building itself is very clean and the elevators run smoothly. Front office staff and RAs are very chill and don't mind residents having fun. All entrances are locked so security is excellent. Showers are clean and water pressure is great here, especially compared to the other newer dorms.

My favorite thing about Rienow Hall is the co-ed floors. It makes the floors feel like a community and have never walked around without being greeted. People really do respect the quiet hours and I appreciate that a lot. The staff cleans every day, however, there is only basic cleaning that is done. There is mildew/mold in the showers that I have reported and was told they would get rid of it, but they never did. That is the only thing that concerns me because it affects the safety and health of students who are paying a lot of money to live in the dorm halls.

My experience at Rienow is easily explained as you have to take the bad with the good. The rooms at rienow are upgraded very well will new floors and paint but the bathrooms are another story - they could use some upgrades. There was also about a week of a burning smell when the heaters kicked on for the colder weather, along with that the heating system constantly clanked at what seemed to be the worst times. The staff of Rienow was absolutely amazing though, always kind, attentive and supportive. Rienow isn't the best dorm UofI has to offer, but it isn't the absolute worst either. If you are a heavy sleeper that won't be bothered by the hospital sounds of ambulances and helicopters, and won't mind a longer walk it is your place to live.

My experience in Rienow at Iowa is/has been amazing! Common area's and bathrooms are cleaned for about an hour or so daily which is really amazing especially since they are communal bathrooms and showers. Staff is always super nice when passing by as well! My RA was amazing, so sweet! The location is maybe a five to ten minute walk to Kinnick Stadium which is awesome for gamedays, and the same amount to the center of campus! It is just far enough away so you don't feel like you're in the same place all the time. The Westside is also pretty quiet other than the hospital being right next to the dorms but that is really the only thing that is relatively loud! Overally an amazing dorm to live in!

I really enjoyed living at Rienow Hall. Primarily, the staff were always eager to help answer any questions freshman year. Secondly, I really enjoyed all of the natural lighting in the study rooms. The natural lighting really helped me focus on my studies. However, I didn't like the location of the Hall on west side because it limited how many activities I could partake in due to the long travel.

Rienow hall has been an amazing experience so far but I believe that the people you meet are what make is so special. The rooms are a pretty decent size and having a sink in your room is a life saver.

My experience when I was a first-year living in Reinow was not terrible. The people I met on the floor were amazing and the RA that my floor had was very insightful and necessary for me to survive my year at Iowa. The hall itself had some issues involving the temperature of the water for showers and that the dryers/washers could potentially shrink clothes. The rooms were large and the quietness, on my floor, was relatively normal. The common areas were also good and there was enough room for multiple people to study.

I met a-lot of new people and became very good friends with some of the girls on my floor. All the girls on my floor got along with each other pretty well. My RA was always trying to get all the girls involve with everything that was going on campus and within our floor. I had a really good experience. My RA was very good at her job and I really enjoyed having her as my RA.

I liked living there, but some of the custodial staff were not very friendly and sometimes took shortcuts to their job. My hall was very loud most weekend nights very late at night but other than that it was great

So far it's been awesome living at Rienow. I haven't had a problem with the building at all, and it's not uncomfortable living there. Since it is on the westside it farther away from things, but nothing major. The staff at Rienow is also very nice, and everything is kept up to date, even cleaning.

It was not a horrible dorm, but it was on the west side of campus. It was far from all of my classes, and was older compared to the other buildings. It was near Hillcrest, which had a dining hall, but that was the only dining hall on the west side.
