Edens-Higginson Community Dorm Reviews at Washington

I lived in Edens North which I often describe as the second worst dorm in the honors community. It's no Edens Hall, but it is considerably better than the motel acting like a dorm building that is Higginson. Edens North shares a common room, kitchen, front desk, and laundry room with Edens Hall and is connected by a skybridge. Those shared spaces can get really gross after a while (especially the kitchen) or crowded. However, the Edens North side is just worse. The elevator is ancient and breaks all the time. Barely anyone uses it because it's constantly creaking and feels like it's going to drop you when you get to your location. The hallways are dark and kinda musty sometimes and there is varying quality in stuff like the water fountains. The one on the forth floor overshoots and gets the carpet wet while the one on the second has an automatic water bottle filler. The staff is wonderful though, and the rooms are nicely sized. They also have a lot of built in storage space. There's a lot of pros and cons, but I don't regret living in Edens North. It is a really good location and has everything that you need.

Positioned on North Campus, near red square and the Viking Union, this is a great location for a dorm. The dorms in Eden had good storage options with built in drawers and cabinets. It was a traditional dorm style where the bathroom was down the hall. The laundry room was often busy in the afternoons, so I opted to get up around 7am and do laundry before classes to avoid the rush. The common room was nice, with couches and a ping pong table that usually attracted a group of residence on Friday evenings. While there was an elevator in the dorms, it got stuck a few times that I lived there, so if you are able to take the stairs, I would recommend taking the stairs. Otherwise the building felt rather safe and secure and residents had to have fobs to open the door. Overall, the location was great (saving you a long walk or a climb up the hill to Ridge dorms), and it was a friendly, safe place to live.

my experience at the Edens Higginson community was over all quite good. the rooms were quite spacious which is rare for dorms, and the bathrooms for the suites were massive. I never had a problem with anything breaking or being poor quality. The walls were unfortunately pretty thin which took away from some of the quality. luckily the Higginson community tends to be pretty quiet and normally stay to themselves which was good for noise level. The downside to this is there is not a sense of community that some people may hope for when looking for a freshman dorm. My RA was nice, and was good about putting on floor get together, and receiving information about what people wanted so they were interesting to go to. Overall, my experience was exceptional at the Western Washington University Higginson community.

Located the closest to most class buildings, super convenient. The outdoor hallways get cold and icy in the winter, and limit socialization with dorm mates. There is only one kitchen space in the whole building on the first floor which was a pain for cooking meals. The bathrooms are decent and shared with 4 suitemates, even though the rooms itself are very small.

Despite being a smoke and alcohol free area I had many issues with the overwhelming smell of weed coming through my windows and from neighbors dorms. I also had to deal with my roommates getting drunk even though we're not only under age but also we agreed to not drink or smoke in our dorm. So that's something you have to deal with because the advisors who are supposed to control things like that don't care and don't do anything about it.

The Experience is great for me right now. With Covid right now, It's one person per room and it's really nice to have your own spot to escape to. The lounge are awesome places too to hangout with friends because the university does a good job with trying to give people things to do.

Everyone was always super nice and would quiet down if they got too loud and you asked them to be quiet. Although, there were some times where the halls should've been quieter, such as during finals week. There was some thoughtlessness, but on other occasions the community would get together to bond and make everyone feel comfortable.
