Santa Lucia Hall Dorm Reviews at Cal Poly

Older dorms that need to be updated especially bathrooms poor water pressure. Very hot not much air flow. I can't comment on kitchen areas as they are closed due to covid even though we all live together and share bathrooms. Just not worth the housing cost when students in the new dorms pay exact same price.

I have been a resident at Santa Lu since Fall Quarter 2020, which means I have only experienced the dorm life in the age of COVID-19. With this in mind, I can't fully speak on how things like the common areas are since they're closed and I've never step foot in one (rip). However, I can speak on other things related to Santa Lu. If you couldn't tell by the rating, the biggest negative, in my experience, with Santa Lu is the noise. My room is facing Perimeter Road which is a heavy traffic area (both pedestrian and vehicle) so expect a lot of noise from service vehicles in the mornings and rowdy groups of people on the weekends. In addition to outside noise, the walls are pretty thin so if you happen to have a loud neighbor you will hear everything. In terms of the bathroom and cleanliness, it's pretty outdated and comparable to most public shower/bathroom situations. The janitorial staff do a good job cleaning and sanitizing it though but, on long weekends when the staff are off it can get a lil nasty. Also, it do be smelling hella rank in the bathroom but I mean it's a shared bathroom with like 10+ people so that's kinda to be expected. The biggest positive by far though is Santa Lucia's location. From Santa Lu, you are about a 10 min walk to most important areas. The UU and Vista Grande are an easy walk from the dorm and you are about a 5 min walk from the bus stop to take you into downtown SLO. In terms of getting to classes, Santa Lu isn't too far from most major buildings but, since most of my classes have been online, I don't have much experience with getting to and from classes from the dorm. In conclusion, if you're a heavy sleeper, like me, and unbothered by most things, Santa Lu's location makes for an ideal living situation. However, if you are easily bothered by noise and can't stomach a decently crusty and outdated bathroom, I would try my best to get placed in a different dorm.

Santa Lucia Hall provided an amazing, stereotypical dorm experience. It was loud but lent itself great to socializing. The bathrooms were what you expect when you share them with 50+ people -- often not very clean after being used by students; however, the custodial staff was on top of things. The common spaces were fantastic areas to meet people and hang out!
