Sierra Madre & Yosemite Residence Hall Dorm Reviews at Cal Poly

I like the size of the dorm rooms and the layout of the tower floors. The building interiors are slightly outdated and I would appreciate a nicer bathroom. One thing thatβs really lacking is a kitchen or cooking area. The community center kitchen is very outdated and not big enough at all. Overall I would recommend living in Yosemite dorms however.

Sierra Madre was great for my freshman year at Cal Poly, at the time it was Engineering students dorms and this made the community very school focused and decently quiet. The bathrooms are shared and I was on the girls floor, the drain would get clogged with hair often, but that is a people problem not a dorm problem.

The Sierra Madre living conditions were nothing extravagant, but they were not unsafe or unclean. Living there you have to be prepared to adhere to constant noise and socializing. I did not regret my time living there, but I most definitely couldn't study there.

walls are thin and hallways are cramped but double rooms are spacious and individual floors are very secure. The community center is also nice. there are not enough tv's, unlike yakatutu dorms there is only one tv in the community center.

Was nice to all have our own individual dorm rooms rather then sharing one room with 2 people or 3 depending on the room your are in. Definitely the cleaning staff are amazing always on their top game and keep the dorm rooms cleaner then I had expected it to be. Never had a problem at all and was very helpful o guide me if I need a vacuum or cleaning supply for my room.

I thought it was fairly nice, it wasn't super updated like the new dorms but it was better than paying extra. It was during covid so I didn't have a roommate and no many people were doing much so it stayed fairly quiet.

The cleaning staff came at least twice a week to clean bathrooms and common area. They a good job cleaning and maintaining household items like toilet paper and seat covers. Laundry rooms were ok, they include free services.

COVID cases have risen in SLO, yet I am disappointed at the lack of action taken towards those who continue to party on my floor. I just wish more rules were enforced when it comes to partying in dorms during COVID.

Overall, I had a fantastic experience in Sierra Madre. I made great friends and would not trade that experience for the world. I will say, however, that the facilities were very worn down and it was not always the cleanest environment. But, that was all part of the charm!

My favorite part about Sierra Madre was the layout. All of the rooms face in towards the common area, meaning it was often populated and people were more social than they would have been otherwise. Because of this, I met a lot of people in my residence hall and didn't feel isolated. Other than that, the rooms were pretty small and the infrastructure is clearly old. It's also one of the further dorms from campus.

Overall not a terrible place to live in on campus. It is a bit far from the center of campus and classes but with COVID-19 moving me to mostly online learning it hasnβt been a huge problem. My RA has been super friendly and helpful and Iβm very close to water refill stations and the new dining hall on campus.

While sierra madre might not be the best dorm on campus, it has become my home away from home. These dorm are pretty social as the rooms are all built around the common room. At less than half capacity this year, I know everyone in the tower and I've never had to wait for a hot shower.

It was pretty easy to maintain, I lived on the second floor and the stairs were always a very cool temperature compared to the dormrooms. I lived on the top bunk, closest to the door which was a mistake.
