Cypress Dorm Reviews at CSUMB

My experience at Cypress for a first year college student was acceptable. You need your student ID to get into the building itself and it doesn't work for any other dorm building. Only the one that you live in. The room itself was really big and spacious compared to other college dorms. I was in a triple dorm so I was living with two other people plus myself. The RA of the building came to our dorm at the beginning of the year to help us create an agreement contract where we would all make dorm rules and agree to follow them. If we have any problems with each other we were able to go to the RA and depending on how severe the situation was it followed a certain process. Usually the building would be noisy at night during the weekend because our neighbors were really social but I didn't mind because I am used to noise. The dorm itself didn't have a kitchen but it did have a kitchen downstairs which also had the common area attached to it. Anyone was able to use it and there was a sign on the fridge that warned if you put food in the fridge they are not responsible if any of it gets stolen or used since it is a communal kitchen. The laundry room in Cypress had three washers and three dyers. One of each did stop working at some point during the school year but there was a good amount of students living in the dorm where it wasn't a problem. Students did have a habit of taking your clothes out after 10 minutes of it either sitting in the washer or dyer so you had to be there five minutes before either one stoped or you would get your things taken out. The cleaning ladies are so nice and I would have conversations with them whenever I had the chance. Overall my experience in Cypress was acceptable. It could have been better but it wasn't the worst it could have been.

Overall a great experience, only part that was not so fun was the construction that started just before I started my first year. Besides the noise from that, it was pretty quite and a great place to live. Each room had its own bathroom which I was grateful for so I didnโt have to use a coed bathroom or public restroom.

This dorm is the closest on camous to both Chapman science center, the library, and other buildings on the west side of campus. The building used to be an Army barrack so the walls are hard and you need command strips/ hooks to decorate. Beds are twin XL and I recommend a soft bed top. Each dorm has its own bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower. The kitchen area is shared for the building. I recommend purchasing a mini-fridge for your room instead of using the shared fridge since food might be eaten by others. Three levels with stairs and no elevator. Most rooms have 3 person occupancy but alternate arrangements can be accommodated for extenuating circumstances. The RAs are super sweet and have valuable knowledge for freshmen that they are happy to share. Each floor has its own RA.
