Salley Hall is a notorious dorm at FSU. Although it's old and the location isn't great, it does build a sense of community. Despite it being dated, I loved the layout of it, with a common area, 2 bedrooms, and a bathroom, which is unlike the other Freshman dorms.

My experience at Salley Hall is similar to most. While it is deemed the worst dormitory on campus, is very doable. as long as you keep clean and maintain organization, a small space can be very manageable. Honestly the worst part is the carpet, the bathroom, and the paint color. Once you personalize it and make it your own it’s not as bad. I thoroughly cleaned the bathroom once I got there I highly recommend doing that. Overall, if it is the last option for dormitory, I recommend doing it.

Salley hall was quite the experience to say the least. It is the oldest dorm at FSU I believe. I went random with roommates and luckily it ended very well for me, for others I heard going with random roommates at Salley was a nightmare. You live in very very close quarters with your 3 roommates, so I would recommend not going random. Location for me was nice as I enjoyed Dirac library over Stroz, ran frequently at the track and used the nearby gym, and a lot of my science classes were nearby. It isn’t beautiful like some other dorms on campus and is very old, but I would not trade my Salley experience for anything. That being said, I do not recommend Salley Hall if you have other choices.

It was the oldest and worst dorm at FSU. There were insects, broken furniture, and it was an overall bad experience. I was sick the entire time I lived there, likely from mold exposure. The bedrooms are incredibly small and the only way to make them bigger is to bunk the beds.

It is one of the older dorms on campus however it is located next to a food hall which I found very convenient. I never had problems with it being too loud and it was very clean for the most part. The rooms are very small and you have to share a small space with your roommate but it was not that bad.

Overall experience was okay. It served its purpose as a place to keep my things and sleep at night. My room was right next to the floor's study room and even though the walls were brick, you could hear everything. It didn't seem like any part of the building was updated since it was built and between the tiny closets, white walls, and bunk beds, I felt like I was in a prison. The room when I first moved in was not clean and very dusty. I scrubbed every inch of the bathroom, but still felt dirty after using the showers. The community kitchens smelled of burnt ramen and bad chicken 24/7 and residents seldom cleaned up after themselves. The main parking lot is shared with 3 other surrounding dorms and is difficult to get a spot if you leave during the daytime. The community event spaces were always humid and smelled musty, but the staff and RA's were very nice and respectful. Overall, if your financial situation allows, live off campus.

I ended up between the walls of Salley Hall as a last minute placement for housing. Though I had heard many terrible reviews of the place, living there is a whole other experience. As a Junior now attending FSU I was grateful for what Salley Hall taught me. Yes, I would rank this dorm at the bottom of the list when compared to the nicer dorms on campus such as Azalea and Magnolia. However, the one thing this place teaches you is to be appreciative. Setup: Salley Hall is set up to accommodate 4 roommates in a space with two rooms shared between two people. The beds are bunked (can be separated but not advised) so as not to take up too much space in the already tightly compacted room. There is one bathroom and one living space with 4 large desks that take up most of the area. There are 8 floors (both in Salley East and West). Kitchens are on the 5th and 7th floor, Laundry room on the ground floor, and study rooms on floors: 2,3,4,6 and 8 Unfortunately, Salley Hall is the furthest dorm away from the main action, aka Landis Green. Unless you're a psych or majoring in the medical field, just about everything is a trek to get to your destination. However, the freshman 15 is not so common when living in Salley. Some other perks to the hall is that it is the only dorm on campus to have an entire recreation spot. This includes amenities such as: a basketball court, volleyball court (in the sand), tennis court, and outdoor gym area right behind your dorm. Between the two halls is a lobby a.k.a "The middle building" equipped with a pool table, tennis table, television, vending machines a study lounge and plenty of board games. Not to mention the dorm is located right next to one of two dining halls on campus and a few minutes walk away from a parking garage, Subway and Steak N' Shake. As a former RA I came to realize that there was no other hall on campus that had a sense of community the way that Salley did. We all shared a love-hate relationship for Salley Hall, but this incited lots of conversations with like-minded people eager to make real connections with others. These connections turn into lifelong friendships which I have experienced myself. Even though Salley Hall wasn't a 5-star hotel or like the other dorms on campus, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Its an amazing dorm to meet with people because the dorm is so small and everyone is close in proximity, you naturally start to become friends with your neighbors from different floors and such. However there is no personal privacy.

It was a love and hate relationship. I met so many of my friends here because almost everyone was a freshmen, and because the dorms are pretty small, everyone easily got close to each other and such. This dorm is great for social interactions and easily making friends, but the rooms don't really allow for any personal privacy.

Salley is actually broken into two dorms - East & West. They are directly next to one of the food halls which is pretty awesome. It is also close to off-campus food. Living on campus is pretty great because you can pretty much walk from one corner to another in about 15 min.
