Hampton Roads Hall Dorm Reviews at Mason

Hampton roads hall is one of the largest housing halls on the George mason campus. It is conveniently located right by the Rappahannock parking deck and not too far from the main drag of campus. The elevators are typically clean and in good work condition and the halls always are clean. The actual doors themselves do have air conditioning for the warmer months, a window, well sized closets and come with cabinets for clothing or otherwise. The sinks are also located in the room while the two appliances in the bathroom are the shower and the toilet which is jack and jilled with another room. The wall are drywall and ceilings are high. The people are friendly or otherwise not much of a problem. There is multiple common rooms on each floor with TVs as well as a kitchen on the bottom level. It is definitely a good building to live in

I was a resident advisor at Hampton Roads Hall during the 2016-2017 school year. The rooms were clean, well-maintained, and felt brand-new. The hall housed upperclassmen, which may have contributed to the quiet environment, but the location also helped, as it is on the outskirts of the central hub of campus. The building is a 2 minute walk to dining, and about a 5 minute walk to classes. The area is well-lit and I felt safe walking at all hours by myself. I highly recommend Hampton Roads Hall for anyone wanting to stay on campus.

Even though during COVID most of the common rooms were closed, there was still an open space lobby with a TV when you walked in on the first floor that was really nice. It had HBO Max on it, a printer, and high tables. I even studied there a few times when my roommate had doctor appointments and I didn't have time to set up at a different building to study. The laundry room was great with about 20 washers/dryers - I only ran into a few times when they were all taken up around breaks. The bathrooms were kept really clean by the maintenance staff (from the janitors to handy-workers, they were all super friendly, so helpful and did such a good job) but the main hall ones on a few of the floors were broken for some time at one point. Overall, pretty new building, nice environment, right across from the prime parking deck, and not too far from the heart of campus (less than 5 min walk to dining hall, library, original four, Starbucks, panda express, etc). Definitely recommend it for upper-class housing at Mason.

Hampton Roads Hall is a home away from home. I truly appreciate how welcoming it is to everyone and how they host events that is inclusive to all. I recommend it to any upperclassmen that are trying to find a nice place to stay for the semester!

It's quiet with nice, clean, good-looking. I have witnessed staff keep the building clean, such as wiping the elevators and stair rails with disinfectants. Also, I like that the dorms are are carpet and the dorms have enough space.

The hall is a newer one with 6 floors (elevators in the middle, stairs on either side of the halls). Even though the common rooms are closed for COVID, the lobby on the first floor has a TV with a couch, comfy chairs and high tables with chairs next to the windows. There's vending, laundry, usually kitchens in common rooms, and a printer on the first floor. The staff is absolutely great at keeping the halls and common areas clean and are super friendly--conversations with some have made me feel closer to home. The hall is right across from the parking deck and the other side looks over a decently wooded area, which has a bridge cutting through it to the dining hall (only a 3-4 minute walk).

My experience at Hampton Roads was rather quite. Though sometimes we get those loud groups in the common rooms it was generally quite. The staff was rather helpful and friendly. They host weekly or monthly floor movie night or floor get together. We had a good building portal, where we could post questions to the building or to inform everyone of what's happening. The study rooms were quite and cozy. There were couple of times where I founded myself in those rooms getting some studying done and it was a good environment. Hampton Hall is in a good location, it's across the street from the Rapp deck and a short five minute walk from the Rapp bus stop If someone were to ask me if I would recommend Hampton Hall, I would say yes.

Hampton Roads Hall is basically a home away from home - it felt nice and welcoming and the staff were fun and nice to talk to and be around. It was an incredible experience, and I want more people to realize that.
