Mertz Hall Dorm Reviews at Loyola

Overall Mertz Hall is pretty good. You become friends with everyone on your floor, and it's in a good spot relative to campus. Although it gets a bad rep, it really isn't too bad. The people make it great, and I mean there are 19 floors, how could it not be fun?

So far I have enjoyed living at Mertz Hall, the only problem is that there is a lot of students making the elevators really slow. Overall everyone is really nice and kind especially the staff. Its always clean and they make sure that we feel safe with all the resources that they provide.

Mertz Hall was very quiet, everyone kept to themselves. The building needs an update. There are only two elevators for a 17 floor building, so for any situation, you would need to take the 17 stairways down. The laundry mat on the first floor was also almost always full.

It was crowded but it was a pretty typical freshman dorm. I needed an air filter because the air being recirculated for months on end caused me to have a cough for 10 weeks. The walls are thin and it gets loud, but the RAs were quick to take care of any issues.

I was on floor 17, and it wasn’t great. Many of my floor mates were nice and great people overall. The girls next door however were incredibly rude especially when they had company. Hardly anyone respected quiet hours during finals week which was a struggle. The walls were also paper thin. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that people consider Mertz the party dorm for first year students.

Mertz is definitely your typical college dorm. It is pretty loud on the weekends depending on your floor but not too bad during the week. It is a good dorm to live in if you want to meet people quickly. It is super close to Damen and Damen dining so that's great in the winter. The experience is definitely what you make it.

loooooved mertz it was awesome. the true college experience at loyola with the large population, perfect location and common rooms on every floor. it isnt the most glamorous but it is the best of both worlds

When a very fun one. Was easy to get around to see all of your friends and the amenities were great. I liked the common areas to do homework or to hang out with friends. The stairs were a but challenging but a good workout :P

Mertz hall is great for those who want a social dorm atmosphere and a great view. Going 20 stories up is a great first-year dorm experience. You can get views of all angles of the city. My room had a beautiful view of campus and in the background was Lake Michigan.

Mertz till it hurts! This residence hall is an amazing place to meet different people! Everyone I met was so friendly and caring. Being placed in this dorm was the best way to start the college experience!

The typical college experience in a dorm at Loyola. loud in the best of ways, always seeing someone you know in the elevator and friendly staff made problem solving so easy. The room size was typical and the communal bathrooms were kept clean at all times from my memory.

Mertz was great, but there were so many people that the floor could get loud very often. The common areas are small and cramped. The security is very nice, and the location is great because it is right by the train.

Mertz Hall is hit or miss I would say. Some people find it very social and fun while others find it a bit isolating and cliquey. If you put yourself out there to meet people you will have no issue, but if you are introverted it will be tougher. The location is nice because it is right next to the Damen Student Center on the Lake Shore Campus. It is also near the Loyola L station which is clutch.

I lived in Mertz my freshman and senior year, and I liked it for the most part. The rooms are small, the bathrooms could really use a remodeling and very very deep cleaning, but the dorm was very homey and in nice scenery
