Cockrell-McIntosh Commons Dorm Reviews at SMU

I've lived in Cockrell-McIntosh for 2 years and it has been a great experience. I like having 4 person suites. The only draw back has been keeping the shared bathroom clean ourselves. We never seem to know when the custodial staff will show up to clean it so we forget to clean up before they come and they can't clean as effectively because of that. The location by the football stadium is the best.

I share a suite with 3 other guys. We have to clean our own bathroom so that is the only downside. It's been a great experience, even with the social distancing required from covid 19 this past year. I plan to stay again next year so am looking forward to seeing what it's like when we can be more social.

I lived in a two-room dorm that had a shared bathroom and shared desk space, the picture above is the desk space. This was a highly coveted room because of the ample amount of space compared to other dorms. However, I would not recommend you take one of these dorms as there will be three other strangers that you will have to interact and live with on a daily basis. In my experience, it was awfully awkward and I felt kicked out of my home more often than not. The drama of moving in with strangers on top of all the drama of starting college classes and deciding your life path is not worth it. It is better to get a one-bedroom so that you can close the door and have space for yourself to study. There is plenty of space to socialize on campus where you are not also meant to sleep.

You can meet a lot of new people at the events hosted by Cockrell-McIntosh. Also, There is lots of free food! The Resident Advisors are super nice and helpful. I would recommend becoming friends with them as it is really easy.

I really enjoyed in Cockrell-McIntosh. The hallways and common areas were always kept neat and tidy, as well as the outside. The Faculty-in-Residence, Sandy, made us treats every month, giving us that little taste of home away from home. Everyone in CM was very kind to each other and respected others, something I really appreciated. Even the RA's were very kind and helpful, especially given the stressful circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cockrell-McIntosh is an incredibly welcoming community filled with warm students and staff. We have great events held by our FIR and RCD that usually involve yummy food and great company! I love Cockrell and the amazing opportunities this community offers.

It was short (covid), but for the most part pleasant. The layout it pretty nice and having a separate study room was great. Nice amount of space (recommend to loft bed for more room). The lights were kind harsh in my opinion, too much like a classroom.
