Shiple Hall Dorm Reviews at UDM

Attending in the fall of this year of 2023 I was informed that there was no A/C for freshman dorms. Like most that was intimidating to withstand given walking around campus in the hot sun to come back to a dorm that steaming. Aside from the A/C the dorm does have heating which is keeping us warm now during the cold nights. From my personal experience the staff (room attendees) are exceptional. Because they are students as well we are on a first name basis and also are able to build a strong connection with each other.

Shiple is the best experience because you are surrounded by your freshman class and make friends and memories easily. You really feel like part of a large community that is accepting and genuinely cares for you.

Shiple had only one downside and it was the fact that the bathroom was a shared one with the entire floor. Personally I thought the view of the big clock was beautiful and calming. I would like to see how much it has improved now.

Shiple is an experience. The RA's I had were wonderful. They were nice, supportive, and had fun activities. For the most part, the floor I was on was quiet. The only downfall was the bathrooms usually smelled, and got clogged frequently. The showers got full quick too.

The dorm was small and too quiet. The building was older and all of the dorm rooms as well as the common areas and bathrooms hadn't been updated in years. There was constant construction on the first floor which was never finished and various facilities would be unavailable at very short notice (ie elevator or washing machines)

It was interesting experience. I enjoyed spending time with my friends, but I did not enjoy the community bathrooms. It was not horrible, it was typical of any freshman living experience. If I had to do it over again, I would.

I love living on campus for the convenience of meeting people, getting to class quick, and being close to lots of resources. I unfortunately was stuck with very loud neighbors next door and often times I find it extremely hard to focus. The rooms are okay; however the bathrooms definitely are no ones favorite. The stalls are very small and its almost impossible to shave one's legs in them, also, they often have broken shelves or moldy spots making them not to pleasant. To add, one of the bathroom stall doors fell off early on my first semester and it was not fixed until winter break.
