Austin Hall Dorm Reviews at UT

Basic dorm with the needed amenities. Great location. Loved the vibe and met a lot of awesome people and great friends. I was in a triple. A positive was that I met a lot of people quickly. The room size and closet space was good size for the number of people. A negative was the bathroom. We had to share a toilet and shower with 6 people.

It is a pretty nice dorm, however, the roommates made me change rooms and I went on to live in a single. After moving into my single, my suitemate became really annoying and almost made me move to another room.

There are so many cockroaches and the furniture is falling apart. It is very clear that this residence hall is the worst in quality and least cared about or maintained on campus. No one's first choice of a place to live is Austin.

Austin Hall has become my second home. In particular, living on campus has allowed me to meet people from diverse cultural backgrounds and therefore, to have closer access to their different cultures, develop strong ties of relationships and even make lifelong friends regardless of the different customs and ways of thinking among us. As a campus student, I have become more independent and I have gained a more inclusive mindset. Austin Hall provides a wide range of the basic services and facilities that I, as an international student living far away from home, need, and enjoy. It is a very comfortable, secure, and pleasant location. I’m the Residential Assistant on floor 9; therefore, I am very involved in residential life matters. In Austin, we enjoy a pleasant atmosphere and a happy living environment. Life at Austin becomes easy because it has a developed multi-functional system of services such as communications, laundry services, etc. I lived in a dorm with enough space. It has a bed, desk, and closet, and other utilities.

My semester at Austin Hall was interesting for a first-time university student. I didn't quite expect it to be the way it was but it was a good experience to have. I liked that I had my own room and that it was close-by to all of my classes and the cafeteria. However, I didn't like the fact that there were a lot of immature freshman there, which made it loud and messy sometimes (for example, accidental fire evacuations were common). Austin Hall also doesn't have kitchens, which was a bit disappointing since I like to cook my own food. Overall, it was an average experience.
