St Michael's Hall Dorm Reviews at Xavier

My experience was not horrible in my dorm. However, I will say that it is not nearly the best dorm. There is no privacy between you and your roommate, the building is very old, you don’t get to change your room’s temperature, the rooms are small, there is only a community bathroom and a small laundry room, the fire alarm always go off. Although these imperfections exist, the room is good enough to be in for the school year as the comfortability of my living situation was not the main concern.

My time at St Michael's Hall was very fun. It is a great part of the Xavier experience to live in this dorm. Though to be fair I must mention that the dorm is not very well kept. It is quite old and that is very noticeable, but that also adds to the charm. Xavier students and administration are very proud of the history of this dorm, the Freedom Riders once spent a night at the dorm after being refused elsewhere in the city.

The Mike's as we called it had the best atmosphere out of all the dorms. Since all of the Freshman males were in this dorm, we were all in pretty good standing with each other. The issue with the Mike's came due to certain other circumstances. It was not the best-looking dorm and had some issues being an older dorm, but overall it was a great experience.

The only real redeeming aspect of the St Michael's Hall was the social environment as the smaller size of the dorm allowed you the opportunity to practically know most of the people in the dorm and form many friendships/acquaintances. In addition, the presence of a pool table and a tv allowed people to bond over watching football on Sundays and competitively playing against each other in pool. However, it feels that the positive aspects are outweighed by the presence of under cleaned bathrooms, dirty laundry rooms, etc. If you're into a social environment Mikes is for you but consider your other options first.
