Hartranft Dorm Reviews at Penn State

There are the usual downfalls of dorm living. There are often people moving around the floor and friends that are visiting. Location-wise, it's very close the the HUB, so quick walks to the book store are not so bad. The maintenance crew is super kind and will help with anything.

I resided in Hartranft Hall my first year at Penn State. Staying at the 6th floor was a quiet view of campus buildings, our old main bell, and downtown. The elevators were fast and maintained but the laundry is split among different floors and have less machines available than other dorms outside of Pollock. The small rooms were nice once we personalized them. It was good for freshman for sure.

The Common areas are exceptional for studying and relaxing. I am surprised at how well managed the common areas are, especially the quite room. The WIFI does have a spotty connection in areas, however it is still reliable enough to be able to take exams and study without interruption.

It was definitely a unique experience, at times it felt haunted. Most of the rooms were dusty when we first arrived, and the amount of space is limited. The beds are low and small and very close together. There are no two sides of the rooms, just one open space which makes things a little difficult at times. The bathrooms are public, and the showers are individual stalls. There was a lot of noise and many parties at times, you could hear everything through the walls. Therefore, there were no secrets in the floor, everybody knew everything. But even with it, it was the traditional freshman year of college.

Living at Hartranft for my first semester of college was amazing. I met so many great people in my building, many, which I can tell will be lifelong friends. The staff such as the housing cleaners, maintenance, and RA's are such friendly people. The location is a prime spot because it is close to two dining halls, and is a short walk from downtown. I will definitely miss living in Hartranft in my second year of college; but, to look on the bright side, I can't wait to be back there next semester in February!

Bed was literally a cot. Felt like the military. They were doing renovations all semester so we couldn't even use the commons area. Cleanliness wasn't too bad compared to some of the other dorms I have seen. People can be loud but not too often.
