Spotswood Hall Dorm Reviews at William & Mary

Spotswood Hall used to be where Sharp Scholars were located. I was placed in the dorm despite not being a Sharp Scholar which was weird for me. The location is not bad, close to the caf and not too far from Swem.

Overall pretty good. The freshman dorms at William and Mary are all very bad, but Spotswood (and Botetourt overall) are pretty good (or at least better than GGV). Bug issues but nothing unmanageable, hot in the summer but warm through the winter. Bathrooms and common areas are cleaned frequently. Nice to live in a smaller dorm with less students.

This is a living-learning building. You have to apply to the Sharpe Scholars program to live there. I had one of the few rooms with its own bathroom. There is no air conditioning so it gets really hot in the summer. I would recommend a fan. There is heating, and there are bugs that are pretty big. The school does offer an exterminator service for free. Also, the building is really quiet as a whole since the people living there applied to be a part of a volunteering program.

Spotswood certainly isn't the nicest dorm on campus, but it fosters a great community. My floor kept the hall pretty clean, and staff helped to repair utilities when necessary. There are cockroaches and lots of cobwebs but overall the condition of the dorm has been fair.

Spotswood is overall quiet, and the staff is kind when you run into one another. The rooms have relatively small windows, and there is no AC. While the rooms are not the smallest on campus, they are a bit rough around the edges. The location is good as it is close to food.
